Eh I got rid of the drums and guitar some years back due to space issues. The last time I played I think was NYE 2012 with my folks. I kind of hit a wall with the guitar, stuck in that "most hard songs are too easy, most expert songs are too hard" chasm, could never really play the drums due to the noise they made and vocals...no

I might get back into it one day, never say never, but it'd take something pretty special for RB5 (if it ever comes)

I don't think they'll ever be a Rock Band 5 sadly. Rock Band 4 brought the game and its DLC to the new consoles and hopefully if Microsoft and Sony can keep games and controllers running on future consoles then Rock Band 4 should live on in to the future.

if you ever see the game or guitar going cheap and take the plunge all of your old DLC is ready to download and go

The new blood are pretty good, eh? My own IRL band had a recent personnel change too, this is all very surreal.

The team smashed it this week :datass: top 5%. I better make some effort and put in some plays tonight before you kick me out for being idle.

Rival's Challenge - Season 3: Week 2

twitter.com/RockBand/status/925875140172410895

Spotlights:
  • Queen - Killer Queen (DLC, October 20th 2009. Single also included in the "Queen Pack 01" and "Queen RB3 Enhanced Pack" packs)
  • Rush - A Passage to Bangkok (Rock Band 4 disc song)
  • Wild Cherry - Play That Funky Music (this weeks DLC, also free for owners of the "Season 3 Spotlight Pass")

Playing songs from the 70s count towards this weeks challenge.

DLC 02/11/2017: Solid '70s Pack 02!
There’s more to the ‘70s than just disco music. We’re bringing revolutionary songs this week that are hard rock, punk, and funk!

Named the 45th Best Hard Rock Song of All Time by VH1, “Slow Ride” is a single by British rock band Foghat. Drums open the song with pulsing hits on the offbeat, then the guitar kicks in with a distorted blues riff. The electric slide technique coupled with the tone of the lead vocals gives this song true grit. This song isn’t a slow ride by any means, it alternates between verses, chorus and powerful instrumental breaks with a ton of action in-between. The guitar and bass fly through the song with fills and accents when they can, with an eventual duet and the drums switch between several patterns from a rock beat to a back beat pattern and more.

Another style of rock music that exploded in the 1970s was punk rock and Joey, Johnny, Dee Dee, and Marky Ramone were at the epicenter. “I Wanna Be Sedated” is a single from Ramones’ fourth studio album Road to Ruin, one of their best known songs and a Rock Band favorite. Rolling Stone named it one of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time and NPR included it in the "NPR 100”, a list to determine the 100 most important American musical works of the 20th century. The song has been used in countless films and television shows, and has been covered by dozens of established artists as well as the countless up-and-coming garage rockers. The fast rhythm changes create the bop feeling to the song that’s so much fun to play.

Shifting to an incredible song from Wild Cherry, “Play That Funky Music” was released in 1976 where it immediately went to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot Soul Singles chart as well as topping the charts globally. Its popularity is no surprise, being a textbook funk and party song - as soon as the main guitar riff drops, you know you get pumped. This song will prove just as much fun to play as it is to dance to. Between the syncopated guitar parts and main riff, the rhythm section stays locked in a tight groove while the vocal part does its thing over the verse. Everyone can jump in on vocals and belt out the chorus.

Solid ‘70s Pack 02 will be available for £4.39. Songs can be purchased individually for £1.59 each. The Rock Band Rivals Season 3 Spotlight Pass can be purchased for £10.79.

  • Foghat - "Slow Ride"
  • Ramones - "I Wanna Be Sedated" (Rewind - Part of the RB3 Disc Export)
  • Wild Cherry - "Play That Funky Music" (Part of the Rock Band Rivals Season 3 Spotlight Pass)

  • Fat Bottomed Girls
  • I Want It All
  • I Want to Break Free
  • Killer Queen
  • One Vision

  • I Want to Break Free (RB3 Version)
  • Killer Queen (RB3 Version)
  • One Vision (RB3 Version)
  • Somebody to Love (RB3 Version)

Rival's Challenge - Season 3: Week 3

The tiger artwork from RB2  they need to bring all that art back :(

Spotlights:
  • Billy Joel - I Go to Extremes (DLC, March 22nd 2011. Single also included in the "Billy Joel Piano Challenge" pack)
  • Scandal - The Warrior (Rock Band 4 disc song)
  • Violent Femmes - Blister in the Sun (this weeks DLC, also free for owners of the "Season 3 Spotlight Pass")

Playing songs from the 80s count towards this weeks challenge.

DLC 09/11/2017
Embrace everything '80s this week with two great rock songs from Joan Jett and Violent Femmes!

Joan Jett released "Bad Reputation" as the opening track on her self-titled 1980 studio album. In the song, Jett reacts to her tough personal experience with the music industry at the time, which is further narrated in the music video. "Bad Reputation" has become one of Jett’s best-known songs and has been featured in groundbreaking scenes from television shows and films. The power and confidence in this song has allowed many to connect and identify with Jett and her D.I.Y. spirit. Just like in Rock Band 2, drums will be the toughest, as they they switch up beats throughout the song while keeping the tempo fast and peppy. The guitar and bass will also need to keep up the speed with the fast chord and rhythm changes but they do get some breaks between Jett's vocal part, which also proves to be a challenge between the eighth note phrasing and key change.

Switching gears we turn to a band that defies genres - Violent Femmes, who released their single “Blister In The Sun” on their self-titled debut album in 1983. The album received substantial airplay on college and early alternative radio and eventually went platinum. “Blister In The Sun” opens with the famous bass riff that is also the main vocal and guitar melody of the song; accompanied by snare hits that probably everyone claps together with right on cue. The song structure alternates between verse and chorus with an instrumental break, where each part gets their mini solo, right before the last chorus and outro. Although it may sound like a breezy folk song, the driving main riff during the verses will keep your hands moving and the guitar and bass parts during the choruses are constantly moving as well.

Solid ‘70s Pack 02 will be available for £4.39. Songs can be purchased individually for £1.59 each. The Rock Band Rivals Season 3 Spotlight Pass can be purchased for £10.79.

  • Foghat - "Slow Ride"

Did you do that yourself? Impressive!

I have most of them already, as chance would have it. Alas, didn't get on at all last week but hopefully will get a bit of work done on the spotlights this week.

I did! I had it done for the 80s week a year ago but forgot to post it :fp: but we have had a few more songs since!

I haven't got that Billy Joel song, why did they pick that of all the 80s songs they have to choose from :fp:

Buffalo wrote:Waaaaait a minute, Owner of a Lonely Heart is in Rock Band?! Get in.

They did back in the RB3/360 days! I think it was a while after RB3 when a few people had stopped playing. Get the 360 version if you do so you get access to the keyboard track on RB3. I think it's part of a pack but it features their prog rock stuff which is 100 miles away from this particular track

Think Heart of Glass came out in 1978, hence it not showing up. It was in VCS though.

Owner of a Lonely Heart is beast, not sure if I have it yet but will need to sort that if I don't.

Only real day off this week so I thought I’d stick Rock Band on and put some XP in.

It’s got a 7.9GB update. What the hell is that for? Why didn’t it at least start downloading it yesterday while I was mucking about on Battlefront? :fp:

Thi update obsession has ruined the one thing console gaming had going for it.

Reading the patch notes there’s absolutely no reason why it’s 7.9GB. It’s a larger update than the entire flaming game install takes up.

EDIT: Has my xbox just decided to download the entire game again or was it really supposed to be that big? #filth
