Why in god’s name did they not think Rock Band 4 needed a character creator until the last minute? :dread: Like the whole point of the franchise is YOU get to make a band.

Also Foghat :dread: Had enough of that in Guitar Hero.

I think it was more of a case of budget, which a large chunk went towards bringing back and update all of the 2000+ DLC songs for free and also support previous gen controllers. Another reason why online quickplay never made the cut, they wanted to but could only do so much with what they had available at the time.

Also guitar hero :dread:

Rival's Challenge - Season 3: Week 1

twitter.com/RockBand/status/923340290416619520

Spotlights:
  • Chuck Berry - Johnny B. Goode (this weeks DLC, also free for owners of the "Season 3 Spotlight Pass")
  • Elvis Presley - Suspicious Minds (Rock Band 4 disc song)
  • Roy Orbison - Ooby Dooby (DLC, January 6th 2009. Single also included in the "Roy Orbison Pack 01" pack)

Playing songs from the 50s and 60s count towards this weeks challenge. No bonus XP as far as I know.

There are only about 100 songs available in total (older songs usually have poor quality master recordings, or multiple instruments recorded on the same track - a technical limitation at the time - making them unusable for Rock Band), so don't be pissed off if you only have a handful of songs. I think there are only 2 on disc songs that qualify! Luckily it's the first week so a few plays is enough to be promoted.

DLC 26/10/2017: Chuck Berry and the Jackson 5!
Image

Play with rock and pop legends Chuck Berry and Jackson 5 this week!

One of the most popular songs in rock and roll history is “Johnny B. Goode”, by the late Chuck Berry. The song was released in 1958 through famous Chess Records in Chicago, Illinois. Upon its release it charted on Billboard Hot R&B Sides, as well as the Hot 100. Rolling Stone Magazine declared it #7 on its list of “500 Greatest Songs of All Time” and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame included the song in its list of “500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll”. Berry sings his personal life-inspired lyrics over a swinging blues progression played by the rhythm section with twangy lead guitar riffs. At just about 60 years later, there’s no denying the song still swings; a true staple of rock and roll.

Keeping up with the theme of record breaking songs, “I Want You Back” by Jackson 5 released in 1969 and stood at #1 on the Soul singles chart as well as the Billboard Hot 100. It was included in Rolling Stone Magazine's “500 Greatest Songs of All Time” as well as standing at #9 of the “100 Greatest Pop Songs Since 1963”. It was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame –deeming it a “musical recording of lasting qualitative and historical significance”. Everything about this song is incredible: The syncopated rhythms between the rhythm section, the funk and glam tone quality on the guitar, Michael Jackson’s killer lead vocal line with supportive harmonies and backup vocals make this song a pure pop gem. By no means would it be complete without the absolute monster bass part- also noted as one of the greatest bass lines of all time! This song will definitely be a challenge but that’s why we wanted it back!

Songs can be purchased individually for £1.59 each. The Rock Band Rivals Season 2 Spotlight Pass can be purchased for £10.79.

  • Chuck Berry - "Johnny B. Goode" (Part of the Rock Band Rivals Season 3 Spotlight Pass)
  • Jackson 5 - "I Want You Back" (Rewind - Part of the Lego Rock Band Disc Export)

I'll probably chuck Johnny B Goode a download but this should be a canter, to be honest. Suspicious Minds is brutal for points - might be a chance for me to catch up on the 6,000 I'm behind the top tier players on vocals.

  • Mean Woman Blues
  • Oh, Pretty Woman
  • Ooby Dooby
  • You Got It

I'm actually not sure if there's anything in there I have beyond the one that was part of a challenge a few months back, and anything that was in previous Rock Band games(uh, Suspicious Minds and Spirit in the Sky?).

EDIT: Oh, I have a load of Who songs as well actually. That's fine.

That's where I'm gonna go, when I die.

In fact when I die and they lay me to rest, I'm gonna go to the place that's the best.

In my opinion it is literally the worst on disc song in rhythm action game history, which is bizarre because it came on the best overall track line up in Rock Band 2. I still dream of more Modest Mouse.

Lot of unrest about that roadmap on Reddit by the way - people aren't happy at the lacklustre nature of the presentation and the lack of sure-fire new features being added next year.

As a sidenote, I have two questions:

1. Do we think there'll be a sale on DLC to mark the tenth anniversary next month? I'd like that. :slol:

2. Is there a list up anywhere of all the songs in this week's challenge?

1. I hope so but it'll probably just be a select few packs like they usually do :( nothing like the 50% sale of RB1 and RB2 era DLC they did for a few years.
2. I used the app
  • go to "SONG LIST", the fifth option along the bottom
  • press the filter button (it looks like a funnel, there are three icons on the top right, its the third one of those three)
  • select "DECADE" and uncheck all but 1950s and 1960s, then press save to return to the now filtered list (103 in total)
  • you can also filter these further to the ones you own, press filter again
  • check "SHOW ONLY OWNED SONGS" which is the middle of the three slider options at the bottom of the filter options

You can also use the unofficial database site: http://rbdb.online/ (although it hasn't been updated yet for this week by the looks of it). Press the Purple Lightning Bolt button to filter for only challenge songs. This site is useful when the weekly theme is a bit more complicated than just a genre or year etc.

Went on and made up a wishlist tonight and even now, with almost 650 songs in my library there are 149 songs on it. This game has a scary amount of content on it - though after ten years it's not surprising.

It really is so easy to pour money in to this :dread: I actually think Rock Band has been priced pretty well in terms of DLC which probably helps entice me in to buying so much of it (I think I'm at over 1000 songs now :fp: )

Did any of you guys play Rock Band Unplugged on PSP? All your talk about the money you've spent reminds me that'd I'd buy both songs that were put up for 99p each every single week, whether I'd heard of them or not :fp: Think they were only released for like the last 6 months of 2009 but still.

Yeah you switched between lanes like Amplitude. It was alright for what it was but not a patch on other bemani-style games.

Eh I got rid of the drums and guitar some years back due to space issues. The last time I played I think was NYE 2012 with my folks. I kind of hit a wall with the guitar, stuck in that "most hard songs are too easy, most expert songs are too hard" chasm, could never really play the drums due to the noise they made and vocals...no

I might get back into it one day, never say never, but it'd take something pretty special for RB5 (if it ever comes)

70’s week this week...I’m all over that.
The new blood are pretty good, eh? My own IRL band had a recent personnel change too, this is all very surreal.
