DLC 28/12/17
It’s time to end another year, and we’ve got another pack of themed songs for the occasion!

Blue Swede leads the way with “Hooked On A Feeling” from the album of the same name. A gigantic debut single, it hit #1 on charts very quickly and earned the band worldwide acclaim. An enduring hit supported by regular appearances in media, it’s as relevant in the 2010s as ever. Both guitar and bass have fun parts with a good amount of movement, and drums and vocals feature the well-known back-and-forth leading into the chorus. When playing this song, you’ll definitely feel like you’re in space.

The original version of “Come On Eileen” joins Rock Band this week, from Dexys Midnight Runners. The band’s first #1 hit in America and second #1 in the UK, which won the band Best British Single at the Brit Awards, it’s fondly considered one of the best songs of the 1980s. The song’s full of tempo and key changes, so every instrument changes things up, but where the song really shines is in the vocals. There’s a ton of range to match, and octave jumps happen on the spot. The bridge even features three different lines at once, so it’ll take some practice to parse.

Europe rounds out the pack with an excellent Rewind in the form of “The Final Countdown”. It’s a song everyone knows, having topped the charts in over two dozen countries. A regular performance at every Europe live show since its release, and even a staple at sporting events, “The Final Countdown” remains a huge song to this day. The iconic synth line is placed on the guitar before going into a gallop around a tough guitar solo. Big ‘80s drums surround vocals that everyone can sing along to, so feel free to pick up a microphone!

New Year's Eve 2017 Pack will be available for $5.49. Songs can be purchased individually for $1.99 each. The Rock Band Rivals Season 4 Spotlight Pass Plus can be purchased for $15.99.

  • Blue Swede - "Hooked On A Feeling" (Part of the Rock Band Rivals Season 4 Spotlight Pass Plus)
  • Dexys Midnight Runners - "Come On Eileen"
  • Europe - "The Final Countdown" (Rewind - Part of the LEGO: Rock Band Disc Export)

* Please note that this week’s DLC tracks will be available for purchase on Thursday, December 28th for Sony America and Xbox. This content is already available for purchase for Sony Europe.

I can imagine, even after playing sporadically for 2 years before RB4 I was not so good but you pick it back up quickly. I've got better than ever at it playing so often with Rivals and can gold star the easier stuff quite regularly on guitar/bass/vocals

I didn’t try vocals but I’d still back myself on that as was blessed with the useless talent of having a good but far from exceptional singing voice. Unless your chasing a five star every song achievement, still feels cheap to this day :D

Also used to play the drums so ok at, five starred enter sandman once but the harder stuff is untouchable, I know guys who play in bands who can’t get near the likes run to the hills or pain killer.

Was specifically talking about guitar where I was far from some of the ninjas you see on YouTube but managed to clear every song solo and like you now could clear easier songs with gold stars and score 100% on a few, some of the easier ones I was lucky to get through when I tried playing again. I was well and truly gooseberry fool

There's someone on my Xbox friends list and they have every single Rock Band achievement across all the games and track packs, even the 100% the guitar solo on Final Countdown in Lego

Which platform are you playing on?

Where the strawberry float was this quality DLC when the game was first released? It's a bit late to save the game now.

Xbox one.

Animal achievement on the first one is ridiculous fair play to him if he has that. Although yes I'm not 100% final countdown either :)

I think I have that achievement with the help of my friend. Was that the drums one? I’m stuck on the guitar one which is the last one I need on the first game. I keep meaning to give it another shot actually as it’s been 10 years.

There’s a GRcade crew if you have rivals on Xbox

Also for anyone on Xbox who bought Fleetwood Mac, apparently “Don’t Stop” is fixed along with the other Fleetwood song that didn’t work. I have no idea what that second one was because I never bought it myself. Go to manage game and you should find either of the two tracks (if you bought them) under the ready to install section

Free five-pack of DLC tracks coming this week from local LA artists. Possibly a few okay songs in there?

At least it's not more Boston bands. I don't get why they don't do more stuff with smaller bands if they're running low on funds - Surely a bit of a "Get your band in Rock Band" competition wouldn't exactly be tricky to run, and it'd be some decent publicity for them.

Kinda sad how clueless Harmonix seem to be, and how fed up most players are with them. They posted a new update on the Game Hub on the Xbox the other day, and almost every comment was someone complaining about how Rivals (or at least the multiplayer aspect of it) shouldn't have been a paid-for update considering all the other games had it from day one and for free. But they just ignore it.

I'd love to see some statistics of how many people still actually play. Eventually even the "buy every song" hardcore are going to give up, aren't they?

Eurghhhh why don’t a company made up of musicians understand how songs should be played :fp:

What a waste of money.

Jesus they're not even alike are they  sounds like they've charted some kind of electronic drum beat in the background.

Yay for more free DLC, I've liked all the other free packs (apart from that developer band that had 2 free songs), listening to that preview of these new ones though I'm not sure I'll like any of these. I need to update the OP again, there must be about 120+ songs you get with Rock Band 4/Rivals now

I think the game is still pretty active based on Rivals. We dropped down to #115th by the end of season 3 and didn't make Bloodstone, last season was really difficult.

There's about 8000 crews on Xbox (I guess maybe another 50% on Playstation?), I think about 2/3 of those crews play week on week.

We are in the 91% for XP and that places us at #460. 460 /9 (percent above us) = 51.111 teams per percent spot. 51.111 x 100 = 5111 active teams this week since Thursday. I think I got the maths right anyway. That only covers teams who bought and play Rivals, play with their console online (since Thursday) and on Xbox. I'm not sure how you'd get an average number of people per team, so multiply the 5111 teams by however many you think is the average (1-10 people), we have 5 people who played this week so that's probably a good figure.

It's exactly the same issue that the Kaiser Chiefs track in Lego Rock Band had (which I've always hated on the drums, but I've always just assumed that that's actually how the song is played. How wrong I was!):

Just compare the speed of the hi-hats. Awful. The one song they've released that I've genuinely wanted to play and they strawberry float it up. Gonna have to watch videos now of everything before I buy it.

Looks like they've charted the 1:07 section right on the high hat, perhaps they applied that through the bit before it also.

Harmonix get the stems of a studio recording, so sometimes they differ to what you hear on an album/single because Harmonix gets the insturments unmixed and then they mix it to match the version we all know, and sometimes they take creative licence and include/skip parts from the released songs (there's some harmony vocals on a Kings of Leon track that I never noticed until Rock Band). It could be we can't hear the extra high hats when it's mixed with everything else, but they are there when you isolate the drum track?

Listening to that drum cover though I'm not sure I can hear the extra high hats in the first minute.

Looking at a couple of videos of the actual Kaiser Chiefs guy playing and the Rock Band hi-hats are *much* faster. It's just not fun to play. If they'd kept it how the actual guy plays it then at least you'd feel a bit of pride over doing it right. The drums are almost transferrable onto the real instrument so what's the point of tracking it wrong?

Legitimately tempted to ask for a refund on it on the grounds that it's faulty (because it isn't actually playing the right thing) :shifty: I get that it's only £1.59 but I don't want Harmonix to see that purchase as an endorsement to keep transcribing things terribly.

EDIT: I realise I always sound like a proper whinger in this thread so I might try and stop for a while :shifty:

Maybe I could play higher than Medium/Hard difficulty after all then if they didn't overchart. I just assumed I wasn't good enough to play what I was hearing  I always assumed highhats also work on a pedal too (which isn't charted as a pedal in Rock Band), maybe they chart the open/closed highhat to a regular hit which is why you're seeing twice as many as what you see a drummers hand play? Email Harmonix, they'll answer you for sure on their charting method. Also might be worth looking at the documentation they had for RBN authors and the rules they got them to follow for charting 3rd party DLC.

Worth a go on a refund though, Xbox are pretty good on refunds.
