That's different though, I wouldn't class that as a typical RTS. Pikmin is probably one of the best games on the Gamecube.

I think of pikmin as more of a squad based game tbh, something more like Cannon Fodder.

Rations for surviving the holocaust

Food/Wood/Gold/Stone, Research Points.

Your favorite RTS platform

PC, as if there's any other

Most treasured RTS

Age of Empires II

Hopes and dreams for the future of the genre
World in Conflict to get a proper skirmish mode in it's next expansion pack

Tutonic Knights

Love the genre, and currently really hating that World in Conflict didn't have a proper skirmish mode, almost as bad as Sins not having a proper campaign.

Nah - it even has a simplified version of the traditional resource management for creating more Pikmin. Squad based tactics games like Cannon Fodder usually don't allow you to create more units during the mission... you only get what you take in.

The bunker has been breached boys! Get 'im.

Played the CoH beta. Liked what it was doing but it chugged on my recently bought laptop so there was no way in hell I was buying/upgrading for it. But lappy had no problem with the WiC beta or the RA3 beta.

I do a lot of RTS betas it seems.

CoH is good, but the Montain map (the one where you have to defend then take back a hill) almost ruined it for me. I managed to survive the German attack with a handful of men, only to be told in the next level to retake the hill with this pathetic assortment of tiddlers and 2 tanks that turned up. I had to redo the prior level, concerned now not only with keeping my supply points and holding back the invasion, but saving the town HQ and as many men as possible. It wasn't fun at all, it was a chore. Then the last mission is a walk-over! Mental.

Oohh sorry I seem to have overslept guys. Looks like there's a queue of people outside the bunker, well looks like I better sort through this mess, lets wish a big RTS Bunker Welcome to...

Recruit Randomhero
Pilot Officer PsychicSykes
Warrant Officer Wiggy G32
Able Seaman Agent47
Staff Sergeant something fishy
Ensign Dalagonash
Wing Commander Winkle
Rear Gunner Rightey

Our numbers are bolstered soon we will be able to launch a full frontal assault on the GR population.

I do consider a Pikmin an RTS, though my definition for the genre is probably looser than some of yours. All I need are a bunch of little fellas to guide around and strategize in real time, incidentally if anyone has the original Pikmin I'ld be interested in buying it off them, I foolishly sold mine

Oh and I'll also be downloading RA tomorrow, probably my favorite conventional RTS.

And finally I think it's about time I answered by own questions

Rations for surviving the holocaust
Beans on Toast, and a tiberium harvester :P

Your favorite RTS platform
PC

Most treasured RTS
The original Pikmin, I just think it had the most brilliant combination of puzzle solving and action and though the second is technically a better game, going into that universe for the first time was just a little bit special.

Hopes and dreams for the future of the genre
Pikmin 3 to have more puzzle solving and a decent online mode, a MMO C&C would also be nice

Best weapon for destroying the RTS hating infidels
Has to be the Tesla Coil

Hopefully, Starcraft 2 will be the ultimate game. It will hopefully be the first perfect 10/10 game ever made and everyone in the world will play it.

Anyone up for some Total Annihaltion tommorow? I've been playing today and it's amazing.

Nice to see all these other RTS people here, I never believed there would be so many PC gamers here, GR has always been rather console based.

I want to try and get into the genre, but I unfortunately really suck at these games. The RTS games that I have in my games collection are Rise Of Legends, Company Of Heroes and Command & Conquer 3: Tiberian Wars (all gifts). To a noob what out of these 3 games would be the most accessible?

I just remembered, I had a demo of this awesome game (well, it seemed awesome at the time), a wild west something or other, it was like a 2.5D strategy game, with a sniper dude and a woman who could distract guards by lifting up her dress or something. There were a bunch of characters.

I tried to play the demo to death, but I couldn't complete it, freaking loved it though.

Then it wouldn't be an RTS, and C&C: Sole Survivor was practically just this, and it was crap.

Edit: The only Western RTS I can think of was that Conquest of the Americas one, might not be the exact titles, it was made by the same people that made Cossacks.

Desperadoes? But that's probably pushing the definition of RTS a little too far.
