Catching up with everyone's recent PBs. Amazing work all. :toot:

Did a 32k race today, but dropped down to the 25k distance as I set off too fast and had nothing left at that point. The heat didn't help.

It was a great race though. I started at the front and they released people in groups of 5 every minute, so I stayed at the front for a few miles. Then I got overtaken by someone but later on they overtook me again - they'd got lost for 3k

I set PB's for 15k and 20k but after 10 miles I slowed a lot each mile. They added an extra mile at the end just for psychological torture so I ran about 16.5 miles. Plus I ran to the start which was 4 miles, so still got 20 miles in today!

You ran to a 25k race? And I thought I was crazy when I cycled 25k to do my first sprint triathlon. Well done!

Yeah, plan was to cycle to the start but I left my bike lock at work so had to run there instead.

Had a notification yesterday from runkeeper to say I've passed my 1000th mile. Granted the last 80 or so has been on the bike but it's still a pretty mental distance (for me anyway).

Great Manchester Run done...

Knew I was unlikely to get a PB as soon as I looked at the forecast - 23 degrees so was pretty brutal. Set off too fast as I was trying to get past the fancy dressers who had managed to get in the orange wave - dropped a first mile of 5:56 and crossed 5k in 19:45, but I couldn't keep it up and slowed towards the end. Finished in 40:57 which is my second best 10k time. So pleased considering the circumstances.

It's expensive and it's congested, but it's a great event for the city. Atmosphere was brilliant.

Had a little run yesterday and today as I'd like to make it more of a habit. Christ, I'm unfit. :dread:

The really great thing with running is how quickly you see improvements. If you run even three or four times, you'll begin notice improvements in your ability. Stick with it!

You know you take running seriously is when the day you are going on holiday and you decide it will be good to have a good a weeks rest (I'll be doing gooseberry fool lots of walking anyway) you get up for a run at 6 in the morning

I barely managed to run a mile yesterday and mostly just ended up walking. I ran 2.6 today so at least that's something.

How many days a week do you or others here typically go out running?

Great effort - 5k is the first big milestone which is only 3.1 miles and then you can decide whether you focus on improving time for that distance or cranking up the distance. I run on Mon, Tues, Thurs Fri.

Thanks! I'm easily susceptible to becoming demotivated in the early stages of something and have mostly decided to pick this up for the mental health benefits, so will be primarily focused on consistency before I start looking too much into times. I'll try and get at least 3 or 4 runs in a week.

I had the same problem, and so when I started running I set a goal of getting out and doing a run (even if it's just one mile) every day for a month. Now in hindsight that was a bad idea and just asking for injury, but it got me into the routine which is what I needed at the time.
Set a specific goal and try to stick to it.

Yeah getting into a routine is the key, if you can start to train yourself to get out often then it becomes natural to be doing it and you stop looking for excuses not to!

I'm trying to decide whether to keep looking to improve my times at 5k or whether to try and push on for a longer distance. I've been trying over the last few months to get my 5k time down to 23 mins - I started at around 27 and have managed to get down through 26,25 and 24 fairly easily but seem to be stalling now!

Had a shite run last night, really slow (by about 2+ mins :dread:) no PB's or anything - That said have been battling the lurgy so when I started out, it sounded like there was a rattle snake living in my chest

It didn't kill me, so I guess it must have done me some good.

First time at Lyme parkrun today. Beautiful off-road course in a National Trust property featuring some deer marshals. Total ascent of 425ft according to my watch, including a 235ft first mile :!: You can almost see the whole of Manchester at the top. Not been sent the results yet but I had my time as 21:30.

Could really feel my core muscles towards the end but in a good way. Gonna take till Wednesday off now. 3 weeks today till my first 10k race.

Good luck tomorrow! Sounds like you're flying. You'll love it. :toot:

I would call that running tbh

Facetious post aside WELL DONE :D

I'm for whatever reason anxious about my run tomorrow, I mean I do 10K 3 times a week but always solo and never in packs. Just imagining myself absent mindedly clotheslining someone.
