First half distance since my fatigue issues. Wasn't a quick one but the distance was more important. Marathon training starts this week.

Started running more regularly a few weeks ago after my last long event (wouldn’t class this as training yet but I have been building the mileage up each week).

Did a couple of marathons recently. Ran a local low key one two weeks ago (which I had forgotten I had entered until I received the pre-race email a week before) and jogged round in a steady 4.05 or something.

Completed the Lanzarote Marathon this morning. Put a bit more effort into it and finished in 3.32. Definitely felt those last 3 miles before the end. Some way to go to get anywhere near previous (pre-knee surgery state…if I ever get there) fitness but moving in the right direction. I am conscious that I’ve not done any speed or strength work at all since returning to running and this is a key missing component to getting my times down further but there is some base fitness there.

My Garmin wants me to do 'acceleration glider repeats'. I've tried them twice, it's trolling me isn't it, they're absolutely pointless =\

After one week of marathon training my legs are on fire! had a Fun Run yesterday but didn't fun run it! came 7th which I thought was disappointing as I was 4th last year; however, I was 40 seconds quicker this year.

So why are you disappointed? 40 seconds quicker is one hell of an achievement. Only compare with yourself with running, never with others. I'm glad you're on the mend.

I worded that wrong, I meant I was disappointed with my position until I realised I was 40 seconds quicker once I checked last years time. I was overtaken near the end but I didn't have the legs to prevent it.

I hurt my thigh running last week. I can't walk without painkillers now. :(

I'm hoping in a few weeks it will clear up and I can go back to finishing couch to 5K.

I made it to the one before last run!

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Just completed week 2 on my return to running.

It was 90 seconds running and 30 seconds walking over 12 minutes. I'm feeling good at the moment and hopefully it stays that way. Also been going gym once a week and doing a home workout session as well in the week.

It feels so long since I was in top form and I have no idea if I will get back there but there's only one way to find out.

I take stained to mean "take it easy" rather than "don't run". It's usually just because I've had multiple nights of poor sleep, and exercise is something that helps me sleep better.

I've been following Garmin's suggested runs for the last couple months. I quite like the variety it introduces instead of just going out and running at max effort every time like I used to. On Monday I was on a Threshold run and decided to keep going after the suggested 15 minutes to do a full 5k at threshold pace. Ended up setting a 5k PB at 27:09, so I think that goes to show how much it's helping!

So of course I woke up the next day with COVID. I see the general recommendation is no exercise for 2 weeks after the first positive test. :x

Started up running again today. I've made it out about 3 times in the last six months, so it was tough. My 5k time was down by about 7 minutes, which was to be expected, being out of practice, 8 kilo heavier and with wind & rain. I'm aiming to do 100k in 15 days, which will be much better than my previous best which is a little over 100k in a month. Here goes nothing!

Managed a 10k today. Like yesterday, it was tough and slow, even slowing as far as walking pace for a couple of short periods. I'm really happy that I made the distance though. My experience tells me that with a 5k and a 10k under my belt, it will get a little easier in my next few runs.

One thing I'm not so happy with is the level of chafing I've experienced today. The inside of one of my legs is so bad that it looks like I've been bitten and one of my nipples was bleeding. I'm guessing that this is due to starting up after a break at winter time, but it was unpleasant and I'm hoping it's not a new normal due to age!

Chaffing is generally due to rubbing loose clothes. Can be amplied in the wet/rain. I use a small amount of vaseline on inner thighs, and a small amount too on nipples with some surgical tape. The trick is to get the amout right - too much and it leaves a big stain on your clothes. As for aftercare - Sudocrem.

Entering month 2 of marathon training. My left hamstring is a little tight so need to watch that.

Did Plain Crazy over the weekend, tough race and open to the elements, was very windy.

First run in months (just a 5k), in the pissing rain in the dark up a massive hill at a glacial pace, but felt good - I've not smoked in a couple of weeks and it did make a difference to when I've restarted exercise before. Got so overweight recently though. Probably need some new trainers (I usually wait until my keen runner husband finishes with his and then nab them, because I'm cheap and also not that serious about being particularly good). Anyway I'm just writing this to get it down and hold myself to account.

Hey everyone, hope everyone is doing ok.

What’s everyone’s running plans/goals/ambitions etc for 2024?

Go on be brave. Telling an internet stranger about your goal will make you +1% more likely to be accountable and achieve it.
