Amazing, thanks so much for all of this! Will definitely mix these in to my training, particularly now the days are getting longer I can go out in the evenings. I have the perfect hill I can use too...

Will have a go at this for a while and report back how I get on!

Just popping in to say hi! Did my first ever half marathon on Saturday and I hurt.

Any good recovery tips? I've been craving mountains of meat... *Kenneth Williams.jpg*

Deep heat and tiger balm? That sounds... potent.

Just put Wii fit U on as I like to measure in the morning every week or two. Usually there's not a big change or even worse it tells me I've put weight on but this morning it told me I'd lost 6.2 lbs since the last weigh in, tipping me in to the ideal BMI scale for the first time :datass: It was such a relatively large shift for me the I weighed myself again straight afterwards in case it was a mistake, but the result was exactly the same. Same time of day as usual so it's accurate.

Not been running as regular as normal recently due to time off, Easter, being ill etc. I'm starting to think being ill had a better result on my weight than all this excersiee :fp:

Stretching. Warm baths. Massages. Use a foam roller if you can't find someone prepared to touch you.

And get back out for a very, very (very) gentle run as soon as you feel able.

Has anyone ever run with a weight vest on before? I was looking at them and wondering if they'd be any good. I always preferred shorter, harder running sessions.

Did you know that Running might not be helping you to go places?

Pretty consistently running 8min 30 miles now, if only I had a bit more stamina I could get it to 8min miles with a bit more effort.

8 minute miles is what, about 50 minute 10k pace? That's a solid goal man, good luck. :datass:

@Ad - over what sort of distance? Getting that consistency is a brilliant feeling, though, right?

Not sure what design of weight vest you're looking at - I was a participant for a friend's pilot study a fortnight ago which involved walking at different speeds on a treadmill with a weighted vest (looking at increased exercise intensity/caloric expenditure at lower speeds). If the ones you're looking at are the same design (a vest with internal pockets to put round weights in) then running in it would've been impossible due to the weight bounce.

Yeah, that's what I was worried about, cheers for the feedback. Maybe I'll leave it. I'm naturally carrying a couple of extra kilos at the moment anyway :shifty:

That was the 4 mile loop we do. The warm up part is a gradual slope, then a left and a big slope, then flat most of the way. The downer to that is you can be YEA BRO WE GON SMASH THIS gooseberry fool and then you hit the uphill part and slow to a crawl :dread:

I'm knackered doing it but it's strange to be disappointed to finish it in just under 35 mins when that time was a proper high five achievement a month or so ago.

Made an appearance on national TV at the London Marathon today. Running dreams realised!

Anyone else run or support at London?

Did the 4 mile loop again today and we were running sub 8 min/mile pace for the first 1.5 before we decided to ease off a little for the rest. Still made it in 34 mins which equals my best effort but I'm struggling to see how to get the time down when seemingly running faster, not slowing and keeping the pace on the uphill yields the same time.

Run that by me again... I'll try to help, but I might need a bit more explanation of how the loop goes.

I ran my second run in three days today. 2.4miles in 16:59. That's 15 seconds per mile off my planned GNR pace. Chronic lower back pain slowing me down. Need to become much more flexible, so will be concentrating on mobility and stretches between now and my next run, hopefully on Thursday.

I've started running again and am in the market for some decent trainers. It's predominantly road running, 5-9 mile sort of distance. Looking to spend around £60, does anyone have any recommendations?

Depends on what your goal is, but the most important thing is start slowly. Easiest and cheapest way is to get a rucksack that is sturdy and has a waist (and maybe a chest) strap. People often aren't used to running with rucksacks on, but you soon get used to it. Fill bottles of water, pack them in neatly with a towel and away you go.

That way you can tailor the weight and if you need to, ditch it by pouring away water. I'd recommend starting with 4kg at a slightly slower pace, building up to around 8kgs. After that point you need to start speed marching (the commando special - run on the downhill and flat, and march on the up hills... although you still have to put the effort in on the march) in order to carry more weight, unless you're some sort of load carrying machine.

I do have a weight vest, but it's a lot less hassle just to use the rucksack method.
