Thanks.

My official time was 51:10. Strava said it was 10.5k though with my 10k time being 48:35 which is what it felt like although it was hot and humid. So i will take that sub 50min 10k.

I've started running again for the first time in about 5 years. Did the local parkrun on Saturday and clocked in at just under 25 mins. I then ran the same route again last night and ended up doing it over three minutes slower :slol: :fp: Found it really difficult to judge how fast I was going without other people around me.

How on earth do you take that much off when you're already running at that kind of pace?!

Congrats anyway!

I lost 50 seconds  :fp:. That holiday in Mexico has destroyed me.

I tried a different (flat!) parkrun this week and was expecting to finally get sub-24. That all changed when I saw how many people there were (350) and how narrow the course is (single file in several places).

The aim for mile one was 7:30 but I got stuck behind slower people for the whole lap and so I did it in 8:30. Second lap I managed to pick up the pace a bit, and then finally on lap 3 I was back to my 7:30 pace. Still finished with 24:26 which ain't too bad for me, but I know I can get close to 23:00 on a good day.

Awesome! That is a big chunk of time to knock off!

No parkrun this weekend nor last as i've been focused on a professional exam which i took yesterday. Looking forward to returning to running as basically done very little exercise this past month

That's the thing about parkrun becoming more popular, the courses are becoming increasingly congested. That said, just heard about North Beach parkrun in Durban, South Africa, they got 2080 runners yesterday

And congrats Spindash on the massive sub-20 PB!

Congrats!

After a short run a couple of weeks ago, ran (walked/jogged) non stop from Birmingham to London last weekend in the Grand Union Canal Race finishing in under 32 hours.

Having a rest this weekend!

I decided to copy Spindash and also knocked 52s off my 5k PB - from 24:11 to 23:19 :toot:

You're insane, Good job!

I'd love to be able to do an all day/night race like that. Was hoping to be ready for a 38mile run in October but as it gets near I'm not so sure. I had a lot of aches and injuries that slowed my progress but they've just gone now so maybe I've still got time to get back on track...

Just ran 10k in 51:06 which is a new PB despite it being muddy and flooded. Had to jump a fence at one point because there was a knee high puddle blocking the gate!
I ran the same course in the dry last week in 53:49 so that's a massive improvement (sub-50 next week? ;) ).

Really starting to feel fit again and there's no signs of the aches pains that I'd previously been getting after running.

Holy crap, I'm unfit. Three months to the GNR and life keeps getting in the way of running.

I did 2.4 miles on Tuesday and actually had to stop  - did it in 17:55 (including my brief walking spell).

I'm a long way short of my target GNR pace, even over such a short distance. My plan is to run every Tuesday and Thursday lunchtime, and then aim for a longer weekend run. Gonna do the same distance today at lunch and try to at least improve slightly (though my legs are still aching so it's not likely.)

I've got time still to reach a level where I can do something respectable in September, but my dream of breaking the 90min mark is clearly not gonna happen.

Can anyone recommend running gps monitors? Im using my phone with the strava app at the moment. Can you still use strava on a gps watch?

This site is really good for reviews and comparisons of all of the GPS watches: https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2016/11/win ... tions.html

I think some of the newer watches include Strava Live Segments, but other than that it's usually their own software which then can be synced with Strava after your run.
Personally I use a Garmin 920XT and it does everything I need and hasn't given me any problems at all so far. I'm particularly impressed with the battery life as I have it on highest accuracy with both GPS and GLONASS enabled and still I only have to charge for a couple of hours every week or two.

In the past I had a Garmin FR305 (and sold it at bootsale today for £5). It still works as well as any of the latest watches. The only difference is that it's very bulky so can't be worn as a normal watch, and the GPS takes 5 minutes to connect when you turn it on.

Quality running, that. Played. :datass:

I have been depressed about my GNR training - turns out that at my age (38 now) you can't just do nothing for two years and hope to pick it up where you left off. I also had (undiagnosed) bruised foot - basically pain in the muscle across the arch of my left foot. Seems to have gone now but I'm playing catch up.

So I'm just doing the same 2.4 mile route over and over until I git gud. My times were slower than I was used to - over a minute slower than I was doing two years ago, but after doing that four times, I've made a breakthrough today. Did it 35 seconds faster than I did on Tuesday (17:10, or 7:09 mins per mile. It's a 22:13 5km).

I still have a long way to go. I dream of doing a 90 minute half marathon, but that's 6mins50 per mile, so might be a tall order.

Anyway... I'm going to keep doing this 2.4 mile route until I hit 6:50 per mile (16:24 target time) and then I'll spend some time doing some short, sharp stuff to get some speed and strength into my legs. Then I'll start to increase the distances I do.

How the strawberry float are you all so casually fast? :|

I've been doing this what 3 years now and the fastest I've ever gone was 7 min a mile for ONE mile before having to go back to 7.20 7.40 and I considered that to be belting along. You guys are all 'oh I'm dog slow at the moment I can only run so slow that the world turns the wrong way and I go back in time. Float off the lot of you :x

I've realised my home route is effectively hard interval training. Steep up hill for 5 mins , flat for 5, up and down for 5 and so on. strawberry floating hard work.
