Good work, well done! I didn't even break the 30 minute barrier, my local parkrun is pretty damn hilly though

Thanks :D

Hills completely screw you over. They make a massive difference! You could see if there is another one nearby with a flatter course?

Did a 11.75km trail run race yesterday in the lakes which I've done a few times. This time I did it in 1:12, coming 110 out of 435 which isn't too bad. Last year I did it in 1:18, coming 158 out of 434, but 4 years ago I did it in 1:09 coming 48 out of 278. It's nice I was able to do it a fair bit quick than last year, but the first one was my first ever 10k, how the Hell is it my best time ever. Need to beat that next year. strawberry float you younger me.

Back out on the road today after a few weeks break and managed to get my best time for the 5k with 26:58. Trying to aim at getting under 5 minutes per km within the next month or so.

Still struggling with aches for the day or two after a run, not sure if there's more I need to do in terms of warm up/cool down but it's really annoying as it means I can only do a run or two per week as I'm in too much pain otherwise!

I've just been through the same thing for the last two months. For me I was just running too often and putting in maximum effort each time. I took a week rest and thought that had fixed it but then it didn't take long for the aches to return. I've now taken another two weeks off with only a couple of gentle jogs, and when I did Parkrun last Saturday my legs felt so much better, but once again there was a hint of the aches returning afterwards.

I'm forced to take this week off anyway as the hospital are doing tests on me and said no exercise, so hopefully another break and some more slow runs will be enough to get rid of the problem for good.

Yeah, I'm hoping that doing some less strenuous runs at a frequent enough pace will allow me to build up slowly over time to a point where I'm not feeling it so much in the following days. It's just frustrating as I want to start building on my time and/or increasing my distances and this feels like a bit of a blocker toward that.

Still, as I say I got a PB for the 5km today so I'm not going to be too disappointed if I ache a bit tomorrow!

Awesome!

I did a 10k run last night as I thought I couldn't make the parkrun but then my plans got cancelled and so I attempted the parkrun anyway. My legs were aching bad though so I dropped out halfway round and helped with barcode scanning instead.

Nice one Obv!

Jesus strawberry floating christ the hills around here. Just did 6.9 miles in 57.22 and the elevation difference over the run was 944ft :dread:

I feel absolutely strawberry floated after these runs whereas the one I used to do around work which was mostly flat was a piece of piss by comparison now I look back on it. Still, I think I'm getting a lot more out of it now - I've lost a stone since christmas.

Cheers guys :D.

I hate to say it but I think I'm giving up on the idea of ever beating 20 minutes. It hurts quite a lot and takes significant mental strength to achieve what I'm running now, and I'm not exactly untested or untrained. Knocking a further 10% off my time just seems totally unrealistic.

Don't give up! It can be mentally tough to run 6.30m/m but if you are prepared then perfectly do-able.

Ask yourself, have you done everything training wise to be able to run that pace (intervals, hill reps, strides etc)? Are you the leanest and lightest you can be? Have you selected a Park run that is suitable (flat, fast, has pacers). Have you run eye-balls out at the event or run a touch within the comfort zone?

Essentually, do you REALLY want it or is it something that you think you can do.

Not a flat one that close but am visiting the parents this weekend and did one of the flat local parkruns and got 27 exactly so much better!

I do try very hard each time. I'm usually the odd one out at the end, puffing and panting like I'm on the verge of death, while those around me seem to have taken the whole thing as a light jog in the park!

I suppose what I'm not doing is training all out for it. I like to try and maintain strength so I do powerlifting twice a week, which means I don't have much energy left to work on my running. I guess I don't want it quite enough.

There we go! I'm trying to train on hills so I can get better at dealing with them as they simply slow me down so much. To be honest I'm not sure there's much you can do about it other than accept that they will impact your time.

Wasn't feeling it again this morning for parkrun, my legs were fine for once, but I just didn't have any energy. Didn't eat a lot yesterday which is probably why. Anyhow I finished the course in 26mins which is 2mins off my best.

The final sprint seems to be my strongest section as I always make up several places there. This week I even got a new 400m PR according to Strava. Not bad considering it was after running 3 miles :)

First 10k in 4 years yesterday. 38.50, not too shabby for an old ultra plodder.

20:18 at parkrun today, nine seconds off my PB. South Manchester is a flat course but there's one hill at around 3.5k which slows me down, so I know where I have to improve...
