Quality running, that. Played.
I have been depressed about my GNR training - turns out that at my age (38 now) you can't just do nothing for two years and hope to pick it up where you left off. I also had (undiagnosed) bruised foot - basically pain in the muscle across the arch of my left foot. Seems to have gone now but I'm playing catch up.
So I'm just doing the same 2.4 mile route over and over until I git gud. My times were slower than I was used to - over a minute slower than I was doing two years ago, but after doing that four times, I've made a breakthrough today. Did it 35 seconds faster than I did on Tuesday (17:10, or 7:09 mins per mile. It's a 22:13 5km).
I still have a long way to go. I dream of doing a 90 minute half marathon, but that's 6mins50 per mile, so might be a tall order.
Anyway... I'm going to keep doing this 2.4 mile route until I hit 6:50 per mile (16:24 target time) and then I'll spend some time doing some short, sharp stuff to get some speed and strength into my legs. Then I'll start to increase the distances I do.
