Me!

Joining my club was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Based on my experiences:

  • Running with people of a similar standard is an excellent way of getting faster, and most clubs cater for a wide range of speeds.
  • It's a great support network. Like a real-life version of this thread.
  • If you enter races, running in club colours and having the support of your clubmates and the crowd is the biggest buzz this side of being a professional athlete.

I’ve sometimes considered joining a running club but I think I’m such a competitive individual, I would begin to compare my running against other people rather than trying to beat myself which has been my mindset since the very beginning of my weight loss in 2013 or so. I’m extremely motivated (addictive personality) but I can massively see how being part of a club would be a positive thing (as listed by Spinny) for many people. To be honest, this thread is my running club  I love seeing how you guys are all getting on.

Just PB’d my 10k. 46:03 after a stair climb warm up and before a cycle and to put me over 100 miles for the month. Must get below 45 mins for me to consider myself half decent, but I’m absolutely thrilled with that time, not gonna lie.

I have a few near by, will investigate which one seems best. The one's in Peterborough likely have better facilities but the ones near to my house lack facilities but are more convenient. Will likely go for convenience.

Yeah - long story short- I've got a degenerative eye condition which means I'll be blind in 20-30 years (I turned 27 a couple of days ago) so I'm raising money for their charity.

51:10 10k pb today. Inching closer and closer to my 50 minutes target.

I'm sure if I cheated and dodged hills I could do it.

EAT A DICK OLD NEGATIVE ME

This hobby continues to prove I can do whatever the strawberry float I want if I work at it.

Erm 45 minutes next I guess?

This is my fifth run since Sunday I should probably take taxis everywhere tomorrow.

Thanks dude. Love this thread and seeing everyone else's PBs too. Way I look at it is the only person you really ever race is yourself.

strawberry floating hell, well done.

I need to start seriously running again. I need a job that requires less overtime.

Ha shift work keeps being advertised at my job and this 100% is why I pass up the extra cash. My mental and physical health are more important now.

Was actually a year ago this month I started C25K and I could barely manage the first two weeks, goes to show as long as you don't have a chronic doctor prescribed reason you can go for it.

I've got a lot slower so far this year. Not sure if it's just because it's always been muddy, or if it's from constant aches and injuries, or because I've been focusing on distance over speed.
Tomorrow's parkrun should be dry so that'll give me a decent time to compare with last year.

Also I don't think I'll be buying Brooks running shoes again. The Ghost 10s split during my ultra race with only 300 miles on them, and I just noticed that my Calderras are getting holes where the outside toes are, they only have less 200 miles on them!
I've got a new pair of Mizuno Waveriders to replace the ghost, but going to have to find a trail replacement too now.

I have a 10k PB of 48:05, I reckon you can beat that soon! ;)

I wasn't a fan of the Ghosts either but my other two sets of Brooks have be brilliant.

I found the Ghosts really comfortable, just expected a bit more life out of them. To be fair I did get them muddy quite often and that might not have helped.

The Calderras on the other hand are only a couple months old.

I struggled with the heat at this morning's parkrun.
A bit quicker than last week (as there was less mud) but 90 seconds slower than my PB.

Did my first ever park run this morning. Dont know my PR time but strava suggested it was 29mins or so :toot:

Really gald I didn't need to stop or slow down too much.

Only recently started running and keeping track of it. There is a nice wee 3.3k route that I have been doing and just trying to get consistant.

This post is exempt from the No Context Thread.
