Well, I paid, and quite frankly, I'm happy to do so if they keep outputting games like this. The DRM hasn't negatively affected my computer in any way that I've noticed (though I never use my laptop for watching DVDs, so I won't notice), so it really is a non-issue for me.

I feel the same way.

I am not keen on this software infecting my PC but i have not noticed any performance issues since installing.

I really can't wait for The Sims 3. Hopefully they'll do what they did with Spore, and make it so it can run on lower-end computers.

I've just had a highly stressed session. My empire is now allied with Meh's empire and my old empire, but Floppy (another Meh. empire) and the Razorians (randomers) both get pissy at me and wage some war. I got invaded by both at the same time on the same planet at one point and lost something like 7 ships in a row before finally losing the planet. It had a unique spice for the whole region and I'd just got its T-Score high as well. Damned aliens.

Had to call in allied planet invasions on my lost systems to keep the enemy occupied whilst I concentrated on eradicating the entire Floppy empire. I'll be damned if I can get the Razorians though as they have 4x ship health compared to Floppy. And to top it all, all this fighting is taking me away from the centre of the universe.

Wasn't a big fan of the space stage first time around but enjoying it much more on my second play.

Its a lot harder to play as a peaceful race in the space stage. Trying to get one race to like you often means attacking another, and even when you do get a couple of allies if they are neighbours there is a chance they will start attacking each other.

Yeah, when I was militaristic I got pirate invasion and pirate repellent. Now I have +10 initial relations and quick jump home.

I think I must've played the space stage for 7 or 8 hours yesterday. I'm still a few badges away from the end too. Not sure if the Space section is massive, or I'm just playing slow, but I don't care because it's amazing. I'm always quite short on money though! I don't think I'm maximising my race's potential. I need to focus on upping my spice production run, I reckon.

I quite like having little money, as it means when other races demand money, you can say funds not available, and avoid a war at that point.

I'd rather have a shitload of money so I could pay an ally to go to war with the people threatening me with advanced weapons systems. 8-)

I've not seen that, but I'll be sure to use it on the Warovians or whatever they are.

Yesterday I paid Sylar's Stubble/Charles Manson's civilisation to go to war with the Wurbbles, a clan of furby-like beasts who were pissed off at me for not paying them protection money. They'd declared war on me, but I wiped out all but one of their planets. The last one was massive though, and very heavily fortified. I kept getting blown to bits by turrets and ships. So I paid the other guys to go to war then swooped down amidst the fighting and destroyed all the colonies on the outskirts. Just as they were about to surrender to me, Sylars' Volkswagen Golf Empire forced them to surrender, seizing control of the planet. I lost the overall prize, but annihilated the Wurbble race... which was good enough for me.

Just a question, if someone destroyed my planet in their game does it affect mine?

Or, does anything at all that happens if over games affect mine?

Nope, just affects your race in their game, yours will remain the same in every way.

Thanks to finally getting the internet in my shiny new flat, I can finally play this. It's been sitting on my shelf since release, but the "internet connection required" thing has been a bit of a pain.

Ah cool. Prefer it that way.

Where's the cheapest place for this? Getting some money soonish so will pick this and Warhead up.

Just hit the '50 hours played' mark and still haven't found any Omnivorous mouth parts in the creature stage, I'm starting to think it's some sort of bug in the game.

You have to grab the omnivore mouth piece in the cell stage and make sure when you reach the end you've eaten equal amounts of plant and animal cells so you get the omnivore trait at the completion of the stage. Then you'll find omnivore mouth parts in the creature stage. Hope that helps.

Is anyone worried by the DRM issues that have been raised by Spore.

I'm a bit worried about only having three installs for the game, unless I ring up EA.

I'm guessing if I pirated the game I wouldn't be able to use it online, not that I really want to do that.

If EA guaranteed either to keep topping up the installs say every year or if they said they were going to drop the install limited after X time.

Also it annoys me that the game has been stripped of DRM before the UK release, meaning that it hasn't even worked.

Amusement under late capitalism is the prolongation of work.
