I don't agree what the scenes he used to demonstrate the poor use of comedy but he is correct. I can understand that the comedy might not run your enjoyment of the film but I genuinely find it baffling that anyone argues that it's actually good.

I despise these kind of videos. Despise.

The clickbait titles are what does it for me, plus the fact YT seems to think i give a gooseberry fool so all i see in my feed is "the MURDER of destiny 2", "how comedy KILLED star wars", "the DEATH, RAPE, AND DEFILEMENT OF THE STILL WARM CORPSE OF DESTINY 2", or strawberry floating whatever. All it amounts to is some strawberry floating internet loser telling you "this is why you shouldnt enjoy something you like". strawberry float off. Every star wars movie has lame attempts at humour. Like go watch any of the original movies. Theres some pretty cringeworthy dialogue in all of them. But because theres some in TLJ it warrants an hour long dissection of exactly why some bad humour DESTROYS STAR WARS TO DEATH. I found some of the attempts at comedy fell flat but it didnt MURDER star wars. These strawberry floating cheeto eating strawberry floats. Jesus strawberry float i hate the god damn internet.

I totally agree about these type of videos in general but the jist of what he says is correct.

Rian Johnson could be doing it, I mean he said his trilogy would be completely different.

And didn't Rogue One make mention of the Whills? At least in the soundtrack, you have the Guardian of the Whills theme.

I'm confused as to how that would've tied into the rest of the series. I guess I need to know more, like what's the backdrop to all this? Are we looking at the Guardians of the Whills as the new Jedi? Hundred Eyes with a lightsaber? What's going on with our old friends from the OT? Stuff like that. Both original trilogies had a clear story progression to them, so this presumably would have linked perfectly with those.

*EDIT - Potential Episode 9 Casting News*

Billy Dee Williams is returning to a galaxy far, far away.

The actor, who famously played the galactic gambler Lando Calrissian, will reprise the role for Star Wars: Episode IX, the next Star Wars installment from Lucasfilm.

Chatter about Williams joining the production, which is set to begin later this summer, increased in recent days when the actor bowed out of an upcoming sci-fi and pop culture convention citing a conflict with a movie schedule. Sources confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that Williams will indeed be returning to the Star Wars film franchise for the first time since 1983’s Return of the Jedi. The Lando Calrissian character made his suave debut in 1980's Empire Strikes Back.

Williams has in recent years returned to the role that fuels his appearances on the convention circuit, voicing Calrissian in various cartoon series and video games.

The character is one of the more popular personages in the Star Wars universe and appeared in a major way in this year’s Solo: A Star Wars Story. Donald Glover slipped on the cape to play a younger Calrissian.

Episode IX is being directed by J.J. Abrams and will reunite Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac and Adam Driver, among others. Keri Russell is one of the new additions to the cast. The film is set to open Dec. 20, 2019.

Hmm... I'm sure the title says no spoilers..

Granted, it'd probably be impossible to keep that one quiet, but I wasn't expecting to see it when I clicked on the thread this morning...

THE CLONE WARS IS BACK!

I AM SO HAPPY TO SEE THIS, EVEN IF IT'S ONLY THE SEIGE OF MANDALORE AND THE TWO ANIMATIC ARCS RELEASED.

Ahem. Yeah... That's good to know.

 :o

I'm hoping that the 12 episodes are to gauge audience reactions, and that we'll get that last two full seasons that never happened sometime after. So excited that we'll finally get to see Fett and Cad Bane again.

Best Star Wars is best. I guess this means I don't have a choice in getting that Disney streaming service now. :(

Also, I heard that while the A Star Wars Story spinoff movies have been shelved, thanks to the ineptly timed release of Solo, the Kenobi movie is moving forward and will go straight onto the Disney streaming service. Worrisome if true. :(

I'd only heard of them being canned, not of Kenobi going straight to streaming. If true, I suppose they need something big alongside The Clone Wars in terms of Star Wars content, and at least this way - if it continues - it keeps the trilogies as the big spectacles that they're meant to be without suffering from an overload of films both before and inevitably after.

So goddamn excited.

I see your point, but seeing Rogue One and Solo on the big screen felt special to me, and they were every bit as spectacular as the main series. I worry that direct-to-streaming movies won't have the same impact because they won't be in the cinema, except presumably for special screenings that are sold out as soon as tickets go on sale.

Rogue One was a special case for me, seeing as it released on my birthday [though the last three years have been great in terms of being near that date anyway], so I definitely know the feeling. Star Wars has pretty much been the only reason for me going to the cinema, with Rogue One feeling just as special seeing it in the new year as it did on my birthday, and that excitement of planning to go see it makes the moment that just a singular decision to start streaming it wouldn't have.

STAR WARS: EPISODE IX CAST ANNOUNCED -

Star Wars: Episode IX will begin filming at London’s Pinewood Studios on August 1, 2018. J.J. Abrams returns to direct the final installment of the Skywalker saga. Abrams co-wrote the screenplay with Chris Terrio.

Returning cast members include Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, and Billie Lourd. Joining the cast of Episode IX are Naomi Ackie and Richard E. Grant, who will be joined by veteran Star Wars actors Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, and Billy Dee Williams, who will reprise his role as Lando Calrissian.

The role of Leia Organa will once again be played by Carrie Fisher, using previously unreleased footage shot for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. “We desperately loved Carrie Fisher,” says Abrams. “Finding a truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga without her eluded us. We were never going to recast, or use a CG character. With the support and blessing from her daughter, Billie, we have found a way to honor Carrie’s legacy and role as Leia in Episode IX by using unseen footage we shot together in Episode VII.”

Composer John Williams, who has scored every chapter in the Star Wars saga since 1977’s A New Hope, will return to a galaxy far, far away with Episode IX.

That's not very long for filming if it's going to be released next year is it?
