Has anyone bought this? I got my hands on the collectors edition today, after I had it sent to my parent's house by mistake. It's a thing of beauty, with a surprisingly well made box (that looks like a large version of the book), containing prints of artwork not included in the book, and of course the book itself. It's inside a velvet drawstring bag, with JK Rowling's signiture embroidered on it, and when I took it out it turned out to be the most beautiful thing of all. It's leather bound, and adorned by a metal skull with replica gemstones for eyes, along with metal corners and even a clasp. The paper quality is excellent, and the introduction is a print of JK Rowling's original handwritten one, followed by the beautifully printed and illustrated tales themselves.

It's honestly the best made book I've ever owned, and just reading the intro reminded me of how good an author Rowling really is.

I was going to buy it, but then JK Rowling gave a gooseberry fool load of money to the labour party. I'm not funding that gooseberry fool.

I was going to get the collectors edition like yourself but when I realised there were about 100,000 copies for the UK I went right off the idea. I did get the regular version the other day though, haven't dipped into it yet.

Yeah, the only limited editions are the ones Rowling wrote by hand. The CE's are just really nice.

I hate the title. Something about it makes me facepalm. I don't know what.

strawberry float. £50? And the normal copy's just short of £4 at Tesco.

I can't honestly say I'd want to spend an extra £46 on something that isn't really as scarce as it should be.

You might as well have MUG tattooed on your forehead. Collectors editions are for idiots with more money than sense.

I grew out of Harry Potter before it existed.

She's the world's most average writer. I'd prefer to sit through a 100 page Hugobot post discussing the Edge scoring system than read any more of her books.

Yeah? Well you might as well have MUGGLE tattoed on yours. 8-)

You get what you pay for. As it happens, I ordered it about a year ago and forgot about it until last week, by which point it was already "despatching soon". I was thinking about cancelling it, but after getting it I don't regret the purchase at all. Like I said, it's a metal plated leather bound book inside an embroidered velvet bag inside a leather bound, embossed box. Even the art cards are printed on high quality paper, ready to be framed if you wanted to do so.

It's not just a metal tin with a bonus disc, like most gaming CEs.

It's the book from The Deathly Hallows, which you probably already knew, but never mind. Beedle was supposed to be a wizard from the fifteenth century, who was also a bard. He told tales apparently. ;)

It must be said, this thread isn't turning out quite the way I intended. I think this is the first time I've ever seen trolling in a book thread. :?

I love JK Rowling's books, and personally rather like the Beedle The Bard CE. Don't think it's worth it? Don't buy it! Don't like JK Rowling? Nobody's saying you should. If you really feel compelled to moan about stuff you have no interest in, then get a job on the Daily Mail.

So then, Beedle the Bard.

I saw this book in work the other day and was considering buying it. Not sure about it though. I like the Harry Potter books but they feel a bit samey sometimes. I think i will read it eventually though. Maybe i will get it for Christmas. What are the first few chapters turning out to be like Moggy?
