How long has she been taking? Wonder if it's a widespread issue or just another Russian athlete.

Just checked. Nothing really major.

She was taking this drug for 10 years and it was added on the banned list in January. She just did not bother reading the email.

Bit weird her saying she was sent an email but simply didn't get round to checking it. Surely if WADA were making changes to the banned substance list they would send something official to her or her registered sport representative? It's pretty major stuff.

Sure it might not be anything sinister on her part but still, she and/or her team come across as being incredibly stupid for not being on the ball. Pretty embarrassing really.

Sponsors dropping her left right and center. Given that she only plays 3-4 times a year due to injury. Good time to call it a day... Her millions and millions will see her through.

My gut feeling is that she's telling the truth about this. Such a shame to see her potentially bow out this way with a tarnished career.

I agree with this. WADA should also ask athletes read, sign and return confirmation that they have read the new lists before being able to compete. If anything it prevents sports getting a bad rep for drug cheating when something like this happens.

Funny thing about this Meldonium is that it's a primary a soviet drug that isn't used anywhere else. So she could easily have switched to a more modern version.

I now this topic is mostly tennis discussion, but do many people here play? I'm thinking of joining the local league as the park is a couple of minutes away and they have a new league starting in June. So gives me a bit of time to get some practice in as I haven't played much since school/the odd summer afternoon and need a racket etc... :shifty:

I'd like to play but the monotony of picking up balls after a 3 shot rally gets old pretty quickly.

I have tried in the past but I'm awful at tennis. I'd like to get better but I don't know of anywhere to play or anyone to practice against.

Yep, I enjoyed tennis when I was a teenager but I think this is a big reason why I eventually stuck with squash rather than tennis.

I do enjoy Tennis, one of the important factors of when you are a novice/amateur though is playing someone who is of similar skill level. Thankfully a friend of mine is reasonably the same level as me, I would probably say I shade it but he has higher potential than me.

Yeah it is difficult to know the standard, league says beginner but how broad is it? Hopefully I can convince a mate to join as well, or if not at least play regularly.
