It certainly was a terrific match. I was rooting for Alcarez but Djokovic really grabbed the driving seat early on. Things changed so quickly and it was hard to see who would triumph. The two players really delivered an epic game.

I see the ladies are getting the same prize money as the men in the US Open. I've no problem with equal pay but surely they should have to play 5 sets as well?

They're doing LESS WORK for the SAME MONEY.

NOT COOL.

Did you see the Cincennatte final? It was the longest ever 3 set ATP 1000 final and it was strawberry floating epic.

Just a wee heads up. Theim and Eubanks have stomach bugs (Theim had to retire,he looked awful). I don't know if any other players have it but we all know that bugs like that are crazy fast getting around people. It could potentially have a real say in how the tournament goes. Alcatraz might be totally amazeballs but he won't be as good if he's running about the court with a racquet in one hand and a sick bucket in the other

Also. Why isn't anyone talking about tennis? It's a great strawberry floating sport. There mustn't be many people on here interested in it I suppose.

I can't wait for tomorrow, my Scottish hero plays Dimitrov. A difficult task but I have faith in him

Probably because most of the sport is locked behind a paywall.

Stayed up late not intending to watch the whole Novak match. He went 2 sets down though with his fellow Serbian playing some amazing tennis.

Novak then danced his way through 3 quick sets to win

I ended up going to bed at about 7am. I won't be doing that again tonight.

Evans facing Alcarez today. I'm hoping Dan gives him a good game and doesn't get demolished. I like Dan, comes across as a good guy. Young Jack Draper and Cam Norrie also playing today. Draper had a great result in the previous round.

My man Murray just wasn't at the races against Dimitrov. He just didn't look like himself. I'm putting it down to lack of real matches due to having an abdominal injury that forced him to retire from the Canadian open. Did you know that Andy was born with a rare problem with one of his knees? One of them has 2 separate bones instead of the standard 1. That's why you see him rubbing his knee every now and then. Dodgy knee, metal hip and the 3 greatest players to ever grace the court playing at the same time as him. He still manages to win 20 top titles (21 if you include The Davis Cup).

I'll shut up now.

I didn't get to see it, RG - I only have access to Freeview channels. It looks to have been a really close match; Alcarez and Djokovic are in an era of battling!

Dan Evans put in a decent performance against Alcaraz today and even managed to win a set. Alcaraz was just too good though, he's so entertaining to watch.

Really happy for Coco.
Even happier for Djoko.

Great response to the disappointment of Wimbledon.
Getting to all four Slam finals and winning 3 at the age of 36 is incredible.

No argument now about who is the greatest.

No argument?

I don't think that is true at all, Federer won a title at an even older age for instance. Nadal/Federer/Djok will be argued about for decades.

There will still be arguments but for me Djokovic has cemented it as the greatest, his record speaks for itself.

Hate to say but I'd agree Djokovic has cemented himself as both the greatest player and the greatest bellend.

You could make arguments about Federer having the most aesthetically pleasing style of play, or for Nadal to be the greatest clay-courter, but Djokovic is the best overall tennis player of all time.

Djokovic being the best tennis player ever just makes his anti-vax and anti-Kosovo views all the more galling. I'll unfortunately only really see him as a big piece of gooseberry fool first and foremost, particularly among the Big Four.

Djokovic is a bit of a bellend but to say he is not the greatest male player ever is a stretch.

Shock loss for Alcaraz. Zverev played a blinder.

Excellent from Sinner. Well played lad. Nowhere near good enough for 3 of the 4 sets from Novak. He was abysmal in the first two especially.
