Based on the bestselling 2007 novel by Dan Simmons, AMC's 'The Terror' will premiere on Monday, March 26 at 9/8c with a 2 hour premiere.

Inspired by a true story, 'The Terror' centers on the British Royal Navy’s perilous voyage into unchartered territory as the crew attempts to discover the Northwest Passage. Faced with treacherous conditions, limited resources, dwindling hope and fear of the unknown, the crew is pushed to the brink of extinction. Frozen, isolated and stuck at the end of the earth, 'The Terror' highlights all that can go wrong when a group of men, desperate to survive, struggle not only with the elements, but with each other.

This season's story (consisting of 10 episodes) will be self contained and, if renewed, the second season would focus on an entirely different story and set of characters.

TV Guide said:

This grueling but rewarding 10-part series from Ridley Scott's company is like a Masterpiece version of a classic horror movie: literate and philosophical, yet shocking but terrifically scary.

The Hollywood Reporter said:

There's an impressive confidence to the storytelling that will grab viewers with a taste for sophisticated horror. All-round terrific acting is a huge part of it, notably from Harris in his best role since Mad Men.

SlashFilm said:

The Terror tells a complete tale, and what an engrossing tale it is.

In an era when horror-based television is becoming more and more prevalent, The Terror stands out. It is a triumph of mood and setting, full of scenes that chill the blood and quicken the pulse. We know going into The Terror that the cast of characters are doomed, but this foreknowledge doesn’t lessen how downright creepy the story ends up being.

The book is absolutely brilliant and the show deserves some attention. Also i stole this OP from resetera cause i didnt want to discuss the show there with those cretins

Sweet. Read the book a few years ago and heard they were making a show but completely forgot about it. Can't wait now. :D

Will it have monsters in it ala At the Mountains of Madness?

I like Ciarán Hinds, might have to watch this.

Yeah I hope it's good.

One thing I'm confused by is all the talk of it being a complete story. Are they doing the whole book in one season? If so what will they do if it gets renewed?

I've got the book but never read it because I'm a lazy strawberry float. I don't know whether to bother ever, now.

Apparently the next season is going to be a different Simmons story i think. Which kinda sucks as trying to fit this whole book into one season is gonna be tough

10-11 hours doesn't seem enough time to build the overwhelming feeling of dread that the book manages to.

The book never made it to audio though. So it must be pretty bad.

Love Dan Simmons stuff (the Hyperion Cantos especially) but have never read this. Now I'm conflicted whether to watch this or read the book first...

Well if you can cram in all 1300 pages or so between now and Monday, you can do both

No way, it'll be a Titanic adventure. Season 3 to revolve around Captain Scott in the Antarctic.

Fetch me old brown trousers, bring them to me now, I'll wear them in the rigging as they fire across the bow. Fetch me old brown trousers, I fear we may be hit, for even if they shoot me now, they'll never see me... ;)
