And if you had done a business degree, you would get all that and more!

Why would I want to do a business degree when I don't need it to get a job in business?

Bravo. One sentence sums up the benefits of a history degree better than I really could. Having said that, I'm interested enough in the subject matter to want to pursue a career in academia. I'm good at two things; Rock Band and history.

I would have liked to take ancient history further, but with the medicine I'd been at university for far too many years by the time I graduated and was mired in debt and craving getting out into the real world for a bit. I really wanted to ditch the student jobs and get a few years of work under my belt.

Can't argue with that really, I love uni and even I'm starting to get tired of constant essay writing on top of a dodgy part time job after half a decade of it. Hopefully this will be my last year though, and I'll be able to get funding for a PhD starting in October. Should probably get my arse in gear on that one though. :fp:

Interestingly enough, my uni places a lot of emphasis on social history and history of healthcare - one of the more important lecturers has written several books on the history of illegal drugs(Cannabis Britannica is actually pretty good) and I've done a few modules on the history of medicine. It's interesting stuff.

I did my self-directed long essay and dissertation on Hippocratic medicine, ancient medicine is my favourite topic. Would love to study it more.

People with business degrees end up selling me burgers in McDonalds. Although to be fair, that only happens to the ones that studied business in backwards countries like New Zealand.

Three things.

You're really good at being really bad at everything else. That's a talent.

I wouldn't say I'm bad at everything else, just mired in mediocrity. We can't all be as "awesome" as you. :)

Such is true. Mediocrity is the future.

Two undergraduate dissertations printed, 9,826 words not inc. quotes, hot and toasty, wire bound with laminate, handed in before time. I guess now I should be an Honorable Bachelor of Art. Whatever that means..

From now until my MA, I can actually make things!!

I really tried to put the stops out for this, so I'm hoping for a first, a very high 2:1 or, hell, may as well hope for something even better.

My last two essays were 1sts so it ought to make sense. Especially since I had something like 45 references in there plus further reference (even if a handful of those were games) and more passing (uncited) reference to a multitude of artworks and media texts.

Seeing Slartibartfast's post reminded me, can I also be removed from the OP? Graduated now.

Would it be a good idea for me to create a new thread with a new list? As far as I know, the current list has never been particularly accurate, and I don't really even see Red Devil around these days - the last time he posted outside of a football-related thread was January, and he hasn't posted in this thread since August of last year.

No offence intended to Red Devil, of course, but after nearly 200 pages and taking into account the lack of activity it might be time for a new start.

I'm not on the current list at all. :shifty:

I graduate soon though.

I never ended up getting added, either, which makes me think it's been quite out-of-date for a while. It might be worth starting again from scratch, as long as no-one minds. I've kind of wanted to do a proper 'survey' of users just to find out who the scientists are, so it would be a good excuse to finally do it.

That's awesome. This thread needs an active curator.

Fair enough! No time like the present: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=29456

Locked to prevent thread confusion, and I'll archive this at some point in the near future.
