I started my applications for PhD funding today. Got all of the administrative stuff now but I need to write a 4,000 character description of my plans. I hate doing stuff like this.

Got a low 2:1 on the autumn semester(circa 62%), quite happy with that as it's the first semester that'll count towards my final grade, not a bad way to start! Though I did under-perform a bit in exams, which was disappointing but I made it up in essay marks.

Just gotta get the social side back on track, may join a new society this week :)

EDIT: Bahaha, just saw the video...speaking as someone from Cardiff uni, it's hard to watch :fp:

Semester 1 grades all in now. Firsts in two modules, 2.1's in two modules. Will take that happily even though doesn't go towards final grade as is first year. Anyone on here do sports science? Am changing from Sports coaching & development across to that as it allows the physiology and biomech strands.

Kudos, that's much better than what I got in my first year; I just had the "all I need to do is pass!" mantra :shifty:

Actually, I'm worried about my results now. I need at least a 2:1 this year in order to be considered for a study abroad place in my third year. According to the Code of Practice on Assessment for my faculty, a 2:1 is 59% (though that might just be for the degree overall). My first semester marks were 63, 60, 58, 44 and 43. Despite knowing that I need at least a 2:1, I only ever realise that I haven't put enough effort in after the fact.

I need to do some serious work over the next couple of months. I don't want to scrape a 2:1 and end up somewhere shite for my year abroad. Fortunately, my second semester modules are actually interesting.

Surely 59% can't be difficult to achieve? :?

We need 50% just to pass any given test, or if the test/exam is an even number of marks, 50%+1 mark.

Most of the courses at Loughborough are minimum pass mark of 30%; but after that 40% is a 3rd, 50% a 2.2, 60% a 2.1 and 70% a first

We need 90% for a first, 75% for a 2.

All important finals are vivas though, which has its ups and downs.

And like I said, I don't want to scrape a 2:1 and be left with the poor choices for my placement. Ideally, I'll average around 75% for my remaining modules - I managed 80 in a midterm last Thursday, so there's no reason why I can't do it, other than not putting in enough effort.

We needed 50% in medical school in everything to pass, which always seemed hideously low to me.

Started an OU continuing professional development course, whoop. Something to distract me from work.

Same at Cambridge. Sounded awesome when I first got there, but getting 70% turned out to be hard work.
