The Voice - The Live Shows - BBC, put a bullet in its head?

New music talent show The Voice UK starts this Saturday on BBC1 at 7pm. It is billed as being different from X-Factor et al because the initial decision on whether to put contestants through is decided blind, ie the judges don't see them. The idea being that their choices are not made on image or appearance but on the strength of contestants voices - hence the name.

The alternative on these slightly longer Saturday evenings is the return of Simon Cowell in Britain's Got Talent: Although I like David Walliams I tire of seeing dancing dogs, rubbish stand-up comics, singing brats, and street-dance acts. So I will give the Voice a chance. Will.i.am and Tom Jones are big names. Jessie J and Danny O'Donoghue are not quite world class acts but this could be something different and good.

I'm quite looking forward to this. Will.i.am is a legend & X Factor needs some competition. Hope it delivers.

There is a lot of bad blood between Simon Cowell & Will.i.am over the whole Cheryl-gate saga. As well as Cowell's competitiveness with the BBC. He pushed to have the start date of BGT bought forward. This time its personal.

Holly Willoughby is the only saving grace here, and I doubt that'll be enough to make me tune in. Yet another karaoke programme. :fp:
