The Walking Dead is an American television series developed for television by Frank Darabont and based upon the comic book series of the same name by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore and Charlie Adlard. It premiered on the AMC network on October 31, 2010 with a 90-minute premiere episode, during the network's "Fearfest".

The Walking Dead tells the story of the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse and follows a small group of survivors traveling across the United States in search of a new home away from the hordes of zombies. The group is led by Rick Grimes, who was a police officer in the old world. As their situation grows more and more grim, the group's desperation to survive pushes them to do almost anything to stay alive.

I keep telling people to watch it, I think so far I have recommended it to about 30 people since watching the pilot.

It's great isn't it. :D I like it, anyway. I'd say it's better than an 85/100 too.

Ive never watched a zombie series before, dont even know if there has been one, will be intersting to see how they stretch it out, whether the world ends and they die, or they find some cure and make things better, the only downer with the films is you never really get any closure

You should watch Dead Set as well, I think it's all on 4OD. Maybe not as good as The Walking Dead, but still very good, and different (basically - what would happen if there was a zombie uprising in the UK while there were people in the Big Brother house?).

I've gotten a couple of people hooked on it, seems like the show has a very mainstream appeal without sacrificing the things that a make a really good drama.

Would a police station carry silencers? Why does he take an incredibly loud magnum?

I haven't seen it, but was it explained to him that they are affected by noise? I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have a clue.

Yeah, it's explained to him that loud noises draw them closer. Like all creatures with ears. Seemed a bit silly to take a .44 revolver.

Just spend the day reading about 50 issues of the comic, finally caught up to the current issue. It's fantastic stuff, but I can't see them putting half the stuff that goes on in the comic into the TV show. By strawberry float is it brutal at times! Kirkman has NO sentimentality when it comes to his characters.

Anyway I loved the pilot and in true Darabont Style it's a beautifully faithful adaption (well except for the tank). It will be interesting, if Darabont does stick as closely to the comic in the future, I honestly don't think a mainstream TV audience could handle it.

Sometimes Zombies are deaf, sometimes they're blind. You can never be sure.

How would it work? If you've deaf and/or blind whilst you're alive then zombie you would also be deaf and/or blind?

Regardless, he's told at least twice that the sound of a gunshot will draw more zombies to the area. He then stocks up on THE LOUDEST GUNS HE CAN FIND.

I take it that this thread is for discussion up to UK television pace?

I was just making a point, that when your body is turned into a zombie, sometimes in Zombie films it makes you deaf and sometimes all the zombies are blind. They change it to fit the story. Like it wouldn't suprise me if the zombies in this were just blind.

UK or US, as along as people are sensitive about spoilers, which they usually are around here it should be fine. Worked without issue for the 24 thread.

Also, question for the comic book readers, is it ever explained or noted how these zombies seem to retain some of their memories/routines from their living lives? That's something that stuck me as quite different about these zombies.
