The Sopranos kickstarted the resurgence of truly amazing television. The Wire is so far the pinnacle of that.

EDIT - So yeah, s'pretty good.

So good, I'm doing an entire PhD on it.

True story.

As I watch neither, I used to get this and The Shield mixed up.

And that's all I've got to say about that.

I know what you mean. I used to get The Sopranos mixed up with Last Choir Standing.

I've just realised that, for all this time I've been telling chalkitdown that I've been watching Weeds, I've accidentally been watching Pushing Daisies.

I'm personally still trying to figure out what you were trying to type when you accidentally hit send on your PM request for a name change.

I love Lost but I'd agree with that and I'd also add The Shield to that list.

Completely agree. The Wire is utterly brilliant. It's so tightly written, with fascinating characters and densely brilliant season-long narratives. It even manages to get better as it goes along, peaking at season 4, with season 5 still being superb. What I love is that everyone I know seems to have a different favourite character, which says something for the standard of the writing. It's got to be Omar for me, with Bubbles a close second.

One of my flatmates is American and he is obsessed with The Wire, but for some bizarre reason he thinks season 4 is the worst and season 2 is the best :?
I always liked season 4 the most and thought the second season was the weakest just because it was a bit too standalone compared to the others.

I think 2 and 4 are the best. S2 is standalone but not a lot more than the rest, there are elements introduced that are really important to the rest of the series, especially the heroin shipments.

Favourite characters? Stringer, Marlo, Omar, Chris and Nick Sobotka, and of course McNulty. All brilliant.

I've never seen a broken phpBB3 page. :(

I remember the old really long quote chain trick on GR. Fun times.
