OK many of you may have heard a lot of praise about the US TV show The Wire. If you've never watched this pure genius, great writing and actiing of a show then the first ever episode is on Sky Anytime TV right now and FX TV are showing the whole first season on Monday nights at 11pm.

Do yourself a favour and start watching this. The many international awards the series won speak for themselves.

After hearing good stuff about it, I added the first series to my LoveFilm list a few weeks ago. I'll work my way through it eventually.

You seem to have misspelled the word "Lost" in the thread title. Quite how you managed to accidently write "The Wire" instead is beyond me.

Never watched it, but seeing as the first episode is up for streaming on the FX site I'll watch it over the weekend. Hopefully they'll continue putting the rest of the series up too as even though I've got Sky it's more convenient to watch it on my laptop.

I've recently gotten round to watching Series 1. I'm about halfway through and it's awesome.

That murder scene investigation was amazing.

 Lost is good but lost (excuse the pun) its way a little for a whole season before bouncing back last season. The Wire's entire 5 season run didn't have one week season and just got better every year. For shear writing and the way each season focussed on a different aspect of Baltimore but all still tied into each other was great.

Also I'd put 24, Spooks and the Sopranos above Lost. ;)

Lost is for simpletons.

And I've seen The Wire season one, and while it was very good indeed (even if it does suffer from the old HBO mantra towards nudity; 'we can, therefore we must'), I didn't understand why everyone raves the way they do about it.

I should really get around to season two though.

When you get to season 4, you might start to understand the love.

But anyway, The Sopranos is the greatest TV show of the decade.

I bought season 1 ages ago, before getting a little bored after a few episodes and putting it aside for a while. A little later, I started again and quickly became completely hooked. Unfortunately I've yet to get my hands on the second season, but I'll be buying the complete box-set at some point.

Yeah, The Sopranos is better. The Wire is obviously great too, I think the best season was the one that focused on the kids; both shows are in another league compared to enjoyable but daft fluff like Lost, but Sopranos is just more satisfying and engrossing. Unlike the Wire, which really only works as a complete series, Sopranos also has brilliant stand alone episodes that work in their own right (famously the one where T takes Meadow off to college, but also the one where the fat guy's dad comes out of retirement to do a hit comes to mind - just a brilliant episode of TV). And the characters - Johnny Sack. Chris Moltisanti. Paulie. Phil Reotardo. Ralphie.

I can admire the Wire, but The Sopranos is the best telly ever.
