Be warned - You will find the first episode really, really boring.

This might sound silly but what exactly is The Wire about? Wikipedia wasn't exactly helpful.

Each season of The Wire focuses on a different facet of the city of Baltimore. They are, in order: the drug trade, the port, the city government & bureaucracy, the school system, and the print news media.

Is it like a police drama? Does it follow one narrative and have a central story arc throughout the series?

If I actually knew anything about it instead of always hearing how good it is I'd be more inclined to watch it.

As a series it's basically about the city of Baltimore. Each series has an over-riding theme, with the first two heavily based on the drug trade in the city and the others examining other issues. Fundamentally it is based on police investigations into the illegal drugs trade though.

And if you've ever watched Homicide: Life on The Street, then you'll be going 'Ooh!' a lot, and pointing at the screen, saying, 'That's...what'shisname..y'know...him.'

To give the UK some love Life on Mars, Spooks, Hustle are 3 of the best shows to come out of the UK this decade. Guilty pleasure....................... Skins :shifty:

Right debate time, The shield or the wire (No spoilers please! Or at lease use the spoiler tags!)

Both shows are in my top 5, but at a push I'd choose The Shield.

The Wire. Absolutely no doubt.

The Sopranos, or Brotherhood?

Like I have to ask.

For me the title depends on how they finish Battlestar. If the last few shows are as good as I hope then that will take the title but it could nosedive with a lot of unanswered questions and lose the title to Spooks which has been consistently great.

Everyone will say Sopranos, as I beleive only about 5 of us here have watched it, I would personally say brotherhood though, it was just fan-fucking-tastic from start to finish, Jason Issac's stole the show in every scene, Sopranos was great don't get me wrong, but the quality dipped towards the last series, and whilst still being a great series, Brotherhood was just so much better!
