Finished Hearts of Stone earlier this week.

What a great expansion. Other games should take note.

Finally completed this (only been playing since June).

END GAME SPOILERS: Got the ending where Ciri's a Witcher. Happy with that as I prefer it to her being Empress, and obviously her dying would be majorly shitty; which, incidentally I thought had happened. I played up to Geralt telling Emhyr that Ciri had died and then had to go out, so was slightly pissed off for the evening. :fp: Was a proper :o moment when she turned up at the inn.
Other bits and bobs:
#TeamTriss. :datass: much preferred her to Yenn, but then I've not played previous Witcher games so maybe didn't have that emotional attachment to Yenn.
Keira and Lambert live happily ever after.
Nilfgaard rule the North. I killed Dijkstra and Radovid so kinda knew this was coming.
Cerys rules Skellige and all is good.

The only thing I strawberry floated up was the Bloody Baron side quest, he ended up killing himself after his wife died.

What a game. It took me long enough to complete it - both because I didn't ever have any binge sessions and because I insisted on doing every quest and question mark in the game (apart from some in Skellige) - but was well worth it. The gameplay itself was fantastic, despite the combat being a bit repetitive, and the individual characters and side quests are up there with any game I've played. Sad to see the back of it, but it does mean I can play a different 'main' game for the first time in 6 months. I'll definitely be returning for Hearts of Stone soon.

The main game definitely took up a lot of my time and i found myself playing much more than i should have. It is probably one of best games in terms of atmosphere and really making the player feel like they are part of this huge world. Started hearts of stone, but will take it slow and mop up the side quests from now until the next dlc, which i am eagerly anticipating as it is supposed to be much larger than the first one! It will be sad to see the witcher end and i doubt we will get a proper sequel this generation.

You can actually kill Radovid and Dijkstra and get Temeria to rule, which I think is a slightly better ending.

I had everything else the same as you except I didn't end up with anyone as I played them both. :datass:

Is there a quicker way to complete the other endings? - I realised that the one I got was one of the more negative ones!

Might get through some more of hearts of stone this weekend. Wonderful game that really is technical marvel and the updates have improved the game quite greatly imo.

Yeah the patches in this game have made it much better than launch, improvements to frame rate and controls as well as the HUD have been brilliant.

Yep that's for sure! For me the movement patch has made the game so much better! I didn't like the original running as it felt too slidey and fighting enemies was a chore...now its nowhere near bloodborne fighting level, but it is now fun and adequate, whilst not being perfect. My favourite game of the year as it has just been so addicitive and there just so much to do in the game. You could truly own only this one gem for the whole year and be a satisfied gamer. This is one company i do not grudge for charging for dlc. Other companies should take note. I do feel that they should have delayed the game until it was in its current amazing state though as the patches have improved it significantly.

Oh that's what I meant, I think.

What's Hearts of Stone like then? Is it just a few more side quests with some new characters? Or does it expand the story in some way? I'll pick it up regardless as I've heard it's meant to be great.

It just feels like a part of the game in all honesty, but i haven't really got into it too much. Its more witcher and thats all i really want to be honest! Get it.

Cool, that's kinda what I wanted to hear. I'm hoping for more storylines like the whole Bloody Baron one because that was fantastic. I'll probably go for the season pass, I guess it'll be cheaper as I'm bound to pick up Blood and Wine at some point too.

Hearts of Stone isn't just more unrelated side-quests to do. It's one story spanning several quests so in that sense it is similar to the structure of the Bloody Baron arc, the writing is just as strong too. It's one of the better stories in the whole game and there's some good variety, each quest that comprises it has its own distinct tone.

That's great to hear - so how do the expansions work? Do they just pop up as quests once you reach a certain level?

The expansion quests appear in blue in the quest log so you know what's new. It begins by directing you to a notice board where you start things off much like a regular monster contract anywhere else in the game. A lot of it takes place in the North West area of the map near Oxenfurt which has been expanded too. The recommended level is 30 something but you also have the option to jump into it with a pre-made character from the main menu.

Feel like heart of stone has truly begun. One of the characters does look like beckham doesn't he!?

This game really is about the dialogue, characters and surroundings isn't it? I wouldn't say the gameplay is earth shattering, but its certainly better than average. I think if the combat was a little bit better - closer to something like dark souls or bloodborne, we would have one of the best videogames ever made. Never have i played an open world game that runs well, isn't full of loads of niggly glitches and just works. Fallout 4 will have to be amazing to top this in terms of atmosphere, dialogue, characters and the actual world itself. Its just the little touches, like how the rain really gives the impression of wading through muddy plains or the birds flocking far into the distance. Makes the game world feel alive! It boggles the mind what we will witness in the witcher 4 on ps4.

Going back to last gen games has made me appreciate how good the graphics and framerate are.

I picked this up last week, been wanting to play it since launch but knew it'd swallow all my gaming time up. But then I saw it for £25 and thought 'all other titles be damned'.

It took a while for me to warm to it as I keep wanting to compare it to Dragon Age Inquisition, I've not long killed the gryphon though and feel like I'm getting into more now though. The side quests that I've completed so far have been pretty involved, and I like how there's reliance on alchemy, crafting and understanding a monster's weakness rather than just running into battle. I must add that I died *a lot* before I realised this!

Interesting that the patch improved movement (and combat) as I'm finding that one element that I still need to get used to. Horse, Y U no jump over walls?

Oh yeah, I'll need to stop being too nice; I've turned down two quest rewards and I'm skint!

Picked this up this morning. Looking forward to getting stuck in, I've not played a game like this since I don't know when. I think the idea of the world sold it to me, plus of course the universal praise.

Played a few hours and I can see the depth and complexity of it all putting me off after a few hours. Took up a quest about some ghost at a well and it's asking me to brew potions and gooseberry fool which I have no idea how to do.

Might just try and over come things by ploughing through the quest and desperately hope it teaches me what I need to do. I really don't like it when you get dumped into a game with a million and one menus and sub menus and it just kind of expects you to get on with things.

Stick with it, I was the same as you on my first go.... felt a bit disappointed as it was all so complex at first, but then you get the hang of things and its a really awesome game.

Hearts of Stone was only 7.99 on the ps store the other day, seized the opportunity as I was dying to play a bit more.

Firstly its great how the expansion pack not only gives me the opportunity to play the new part, but I can also catch up on some unfinished contracts from the original, thus for me, gameplay time has been extended quite a bit.

Secondly, the new levels are hard as nails, I am having a real hard time with the
toad prince
must have died already a dozen or so times, I actually went back to get some potions like the golden oriole which helps with poison but I still cannot seem to inflict any damage, and one wrong move and he basically demolishes me

If you are above level 32 you should find it ok to handle on easy mode - my default for all videogames!

Brilliant game, which is resting until that big dlc hits in spring 2016. I really loved this game and feel it was my favourite of 2015, ahead of bloodborne and fallout 4.
