Coming to PC and PS4 on 26 January.

4K 60 fps PC trailer.

Hi everyone! We finally know the release date for The Witness: it’s 26th January 2016. That’s about four months from now, and it will be a very busy four months as we work hard to make the game the absolute best we can.

We’ve also got a new trailer, which you can watch above.

We’ll be very happy to get the game out into the world, because we’ve been working on it a long time! We originally thought The Witness would be coming out toward the end of the PS4 launch window, but… there’s just been a lot to do. I think when the game is in your hands, you’ll find it to be intricate and deep, and also unlike anything else you have played.

There’s a lot here. When we started making this game, I figured it would have between eight and 12 hours of playtime. As it happens, the game we’ve finally built is around 10 times as big as that. If you are a completionist who wants to wring every last drop out of the game, you might expect to play for 80 hours, or possibly 100. For people who don’t want to go quite that far, the game’s still got plenty for you.

Last time I posted to this blog was in May 2014. In that post, just for fun, I gave some stats about how many assets were in the game (3D meshes, animations, sounds, etc). Today I went back and took new measurements of all these things; here’s what we have:

As you can see, we have not been idle!

But those numbers will only increase a tiny bit between now and release. For the most part we are fixing bugs, refining the feel of play and making sure everything is just right for January.

That’s all from me for now — back to working on the game! — but Justin from the SCEA PlayStation Blog team has been playing the preview version of The Witness and will be sharing his impressions soon.

Rated for XB1.

Going by the game's website it'll hit "other platforms" after it's released on mobile, which itself will be released a few months after PC/PS4 version.

A lot of people have been asking about the price, so: The price of the game on both Steam and PSN will be $39.99 / €36.99 / £29.99.

A lot of people have been asking about preorders too. Preorders will go live on Steam and the Humble Store (and on this web site) today at noon PST. Unfortunately we won’t have preorders on PSN, because apparently developers have to set those up months in advance and we didn’t know that!

Lots more reviews.

What times does this release tomorrow?

Also, any indication of PS4 framerate? Is it still 60fps?

For me, this game needs a demo. I can't seem to get past 'line puzzles' and throwing down £30.

The game looks incredibly lovely though.

Strange how its not even listed as coming soon on the UK or US store even if it can't be pre-installed.

Only briefly played Braid, however I'm quite intrigued by this.

Gonna wait and see how people feel about this game a few months from now.

I hated Braid. Tried repeatedly to get into it but couldn't.

Brerlappin wrote:This looks like the kind of game i would strawberry floating hate. I was interested when i saw the visuals but 20 hours of newspaper line puzzles? Ill have to go with a big fat strawberry floating nope to that. The reviews seem to be in some kind of emperors new clothes style denial too. "Its just lots of line puzzles so it really should be gooseberry fool but...its genius!!" what  Maybe ill try it when it costs 2.99 but for 30 euro it can go strawberry float itself

So I think the line puzzles are just a means to an end, which is:

To rearrange things on the island to solve bigger puzzles. So the line puzzles have multiple answers but only one is actually the correct one (and this is based on the logic for that set of puzzles). So if you solve it incorrectly, then say, the mirror won't turn the right way to activate the big temple on the top of the mountain, or something. I haven't read too much into it because I'd rather experience it for myself, but that's the feeling I get from some of the stuff you see in the trailers.

Anyway, unfortunately I've got some work to do today but will give this a go in the evening. Had a Sainsbury's gift card and some existing wallet funds so didn't have to shell out £30 of real monies.

It's available for about £24 from Steam key sellers.

I don't know what I think of it yet, but I like the fact that a game that certainly hasn't had an ad campaign which cost millions is the second best selling game on Steam on it's day of release.
