Reminds me of a time I was in Malaysia and some consultant called me at about 3am on Christmas day. Didn't get to the call in time (it work me up) but he left a message saying I do a great job and he loves me. I think he may have been drunk.

Not gay.

Resignation is in. No money from August, but plenty of time to play video games and post gooseberry fool on GR.

How did they take it? Did they try to tempt you into staying with salary increases etc? Also how long have you been with your current employer?

Hah. It is a salary dispute that lead up to my resignation. I will divulge the story at a later date.

After weighing up the pros and cons between my current job and the new opportunity I've decided I'm going to stick where I am. They've given enough of a financial incentive to make it worth staying and I enjoy the both work and the people I work with, the only really downside is that the new place was closer and offered more flexibility on timings etc. but that wasn't quite enough to swing it in the end.

What do people think is the best way of turning down an offer? Almost all of the comms so far has been over email - is it okay to just send a polite email back saying thanks for the offer but I'm not going to take it? Or should I actually speak to somebody on the phone?

Do you think there is a possibility of going back to them in the future? If so, polite thing to do would be call them and follow up with an e-mail. Only downside is that they might be able to persuade you to rethink. If you are sure you won't be going to them in the future, polite e-mail is fine.

Is this from a holiday? If so, you should book today as leave. I get pissed off if people come back from leave and then can't perform because of jet lag.

I'd agree with that, I always think it looks bad if somebody is sick straight after a holiday. Ring in, apologise profusely and take it as annual leave.

Employees in America are entitled to sick leave? Oh Trump will sort that one out soon enough.

Did this. Thinking about calling in sick today though, work's gonna be an absolute nightmare (12hr day) and we have tomorrow off for the 4th.

Go into work, piss yourself. Then get an indefinite amount of time off.

One of our directors thought it was a great idea to send us an email titled: 'If Carlsberg did offices' along with a picture of a massive flat screen tv surrounded by couches, flags and astro turf plus goal off to the right in our LONDON office that they set up for the WC.

So yeah, show us in Dublin how you're treating your staff in London far FAR better. We were all fuming, we can't even watch it on shitty little portable in the canteen without management being annoyed.

I think the key takeaway from that is that you should move to London, you can probably bunk with Jawa or StayDead
