I find telephone stuff way easier. I struggle with eye contact and it helps me put on the act better for some reason. I've progressed without even realising it.

This is genuinely the first I've heard of this though - in 34 years on the planet I've never been told I was too loud before!

This is my first week of catching the train to work. There have been delays on 3 of the 5 days. Just now it was delayed by 16 minutes.

Why are they so horribly gooseberry fool?

Anyone any experience in project management software? I think we've outgrown Excel and think a database is the way to go, but don't really know if there's other options I should be considering.

Hot weather seems the be the main excuse at the moment. I've written to WM Railways recently to ask for a refund of my season ticket because of their shambolic service over the past few weeks (and because, despite the promises of 10 billion pounds of investment, somehow nothing has actually been done yet). On the day of the one England match, it just seemed that most of their staff phoned in sick. Six cancelled trains in the space of an hour because of train crew being unavailable :slol:

MS Project is the obvious choice if you are looking for something on premise.

Trello or Teamwork.

Outgrown Trello too. :(

I'll have a look at MS projects and teamwork though.

Asana is another one.

But I really really like Teamwork. It has an insane amount of features without being a nightmare to use and it works 100% over email if you want it to.

It's also Irish and they answer support really fast.

App needs quite a lot of work though.

Looking into this it seems "project management" isn't the right term, and these solutions only do part of what I need. I also need something that keeps track of stock held, stock installed, invoices, POs, profitability, as well as more specific tasks (for example, schedule site visits, which at the moment is done by combining excel with Google Maps API so it automatically gets travel time between jobs).

At the moment my thinking is I need to build a prototype system in something like MS Access and use this as something our IT guys can look at to see how all the systems we have work together, so they can either change one of our current systems or create a whole new one. (I'm thinking changing a current system isn't the way forward here, though)

You need an ERP system.

You need to discuss this with the decision makers in your company as ERP systems can be mega expensive and need to be rolled out through your company. It will be quite disruptive.

Yeah, don't I just know it, but change is very, very slow (if they're even willing to see the issues with the current way of doing things, and don't just attribute the lack of it working due to people not working hard enough), and we need something in the next couple of months.
I think I'll be keeping an eye on my options while this process just in case.

We’re about 10 emails into the classic work reply all to a mailing list situation where:

> someone has sent out an email to a mailing list incorrectly
> people are replying all to ask to be removed from the mailing list
> people are now replying all to tell the people replying all not to reply all because it’s clogging up their inbox

I’m expecting further escalation throughout the day.

Getting one a minute now. Honestly I’d sack everyone who’s replied.
