The only thing close to theft I ever do in the office is with the snack/drinks machines. Sometimes people will put £1 in and forget to press the button to get their change. It’s impossible to know who did it, so I will just use the credit to make my own snack buying cheaper.

Disgusting behaviour, they should throw away the key! :P

Finders keepers.

We're a small office, so we have a "help yourself to everything in the fridge" rule, as well as a complex and brutal system of social shaming that forces people to contribute in kind for anything taken it.

It sounds like a nightmare but because we all get on well it actually works really well.

Worse than that, he drinks Pepsi Max.

Firstly Pepsi Max is the drink of the gods, and secondly this is clearly not theft.

I simply "took" something that "wasn't mine" - I don't think I can find a clearer way of describing how innocent I am in all of this!

Milk is always game that's about it in my experience. I occasionally scrounge butter.

Often alcohol is too depending on where it came from (party budget in co working environment or random gifts for example ).

One place I worked always had a gooseberry fool load of miniature wines.

One of the teams at work has recently installed a freezer into the kitchen which they now use to store ice-cream for anyone on that team to have for free. They have said that others are allowed to use it if they pop some cash into the charity box which is also in the kitchen which is nice of them.

However in the week or so since it has been there we have now received nearly daily emails from this team saying things like:

"Tony has just put some lovely magnums in the freezer for the JOJO team!"

"Mary wants everyone to know that she's re-stocked the Ben and Jerry's tubs, hope you all enjoy JOJO-ers!"

"Frank can't wait for everyone from JOJO to have a good suck on his new lollipops!"

Okay, we get it - you've got some strawberry floating ice cream, give it a bloody rest! :x

Our office has just installed milk dispensers to do away with milk bottles in the fridge, so we now have milk on tap provided by the company.

We have a 'we serve costa' bar thing, we also have big fridges in the vault (sort of chill out room with sofas, pool and air hockey) which noone seems to pilfer from or at least not that I have notices anyway.

nonono it's totally not okay in a houseshare as that's different, everyone leads different lives around the house, strict budgets etc. But petty cash, whoever is rich enough etc to buy milk for everyone else, that's different.

Although obviously anyone sensible would pool together milk at the very least, possibly also bread, sugar, salt etc.

I just overheard temp boss talking, it sounds like he is being seconded to a projects team for 6 weeks. I don’t think it is because of his piss poor performance as a team leader, but at least it gets rid of him for a bit.

6 weeks with no direct boss? :datass:

I wouldn’t just stop people leaving early, I would force them to work extra hours.

He first took over as the temporary team leader at the start of the year, while he was seconded to a projects team for three months. We coped without him or a direct boss for 3 months, I think we can cope without him for 6 weeks.

Yeah but only because he has done such a great job coaching, mentoring and developing you all as a team.

What a guy!

...and when it all falls apart without him he will return with the position being permanent, more money and more power. His first act will be to implement "no compressed hours" BS. Welcome to do the extra hours but only In addition to a 5 day week.
