The trouble is that he has not done anything to me (yet!). I am just hearing the complaints from other team memebers and seeing the emails that he is sending, but he hasn’t been a tool with me and so I can’t really report it or do anything about it.

He is a massive twat though, it’s going to be interesting when our team leader gets back from maternity leave and he is back to being one of us plebs.

First they came for those over the Bradford Factor threshold, and Moggy did not speak out because he was not over the threshold.

Then they came for the people who wanted to leave early, and Moggy did not speak out because he did not want to leave early.

Then they came for Moggy and there was no one left to speak out for him...

:P

start messing with him to make him feel like he's going mad.
start with moving stuff around on his desk, or taking away his pens and then putting them back, lowering his office chair when hes away, and progress to moving his car to a different spot in the car park while hes on lunch

My views are on the Bradford Factor are well known. I am not shy about saying what a load of bollocks it is.

And I do want to leave early. Every single day. In fact, I’d rather not come in at all.

This has just happened at work so I will post it here. I bring my own coffee in every day and I think I accidentally left it in the office kitchen a little while ago. I have just gone to have a look but it's gone. Nowhere to be seen. I'm livid. I want to get it back but it's embarrassing having to send an email to the office asking for it to be returned to me. What should I do?!

Every office seems to be full of thieves. It's weird, why do people love stealing other peoples food and drink?

I'd send the email, it's your coffee, why should some thieving prick have it?

Drafted this:

This seems like an exercise in futility, as I don’t see why a filthy thief would own up to it, but what the hell. Could whoever took the coffee from the kitchen that was very evidently not theirs give it back. I might not lodge a complaint about you if you do it now and offer a full and frank grovelling apology.

Someone could have been tidying up and just put it away somewhere - did you check the kitchen cupboards?

I may have inadvertently been guilty of some office drink stealing the other day. I tend to drink a few cans of Pepsi Max during the work day and so I keep them in the office kitchen fridge so they are nice and cool. I only noticed after drinking one recently that it didn't have the "ONLY TO BE SOLD AS PART OF A MULTIPACK" text on it which all mine do. I sent an email around saying "sorry if I drank your can of Pepsi!" and offered to let whoever it was have one of mine in return, but have so far received no replies. I'm afraid I have offended someone so greatly that they have turned mute.

The guilt is still keeping me awake at night!

I've checked all the cupboards, yeah. I was even going to go through the bin but there is a lot of gooseberry fool in there.

You definitely won't get it back if you lead with this.

Go for something like

"I had some <brand/description> coffee in the kitchen which seems to have gone missing. If anyone has moved it to tidy up (or mistook it for their own - I know I'm not the only person who drinks coffee) could you let me know? There was quite a lot left so I'm not keen on having to buy a new <jar/box/whatever>!"

Fair enough, I'm struggling to think of another legitimate reason why someone may have moved it!

Have you gone with that draft email?

I almost want to go aggressive just to make it known we have a thief in our midst. Take your point though.

The correct approach is something along the lines of it contained medication and would ask if anyone had taken any to privately contact you as there could be health implications.

Poor form from your office. You should have got multiple replies claiming it was there's and asking for one of yours

I think we have had so many problems with spam email going around that most people probably just ignored it, maybe the subject heading I gave the email didn't help:

"A UK office worker went to the fridge for a refreshing drink and you won't believe what happened next!"

Say the coffee jar/pack contained the ashes of a recently deceased relative. When you see someone start vomiting, you have your culprit.

Firstly Pepsi Max is the drink of the gods, and secondly this is clearly not theft.

I simply "took" something that "wasn't mine" - I don't think I can find a clearer way of describing how innocent I am in all of this!
