You can always email them once they have left.

Ahh come on, they are leaving, there will be a leaving card, just add a cryptic note in their card confusing your undying love.

Confusing undying love is the most mysterious type of love.

How did they take it? Did they try to tempt you into staying with salary increases etc? Also how long have you been with your current employer?

Hah. It is a salary dispute that lead up to my resignation. I will divulge the story at a later date.

Decided to stay with Evil Corp in return for loads more money.

My work has succeeded in making me hate Fridays now. It's strawberry floating impossible to get anything done by anyone. I understand people wanting to take it a little easier at the end of the week but when it leads to me running around frantically because no one will answer a phone or lift a finger to help me find the information I need it's just not fair. If you ignore my repeated requests from Monday don't act annoyed because I'm hounding you for a report at you've failed to dictate in the last thirty hours you've been scratching your arse.

You know it's a bad day when you're using wine to wash back paracetamol in the evening.

Fridays are pretty much my busiest day. It's like everyone's trying to get all their gooseberry fool done before the end of the week and so the emails really start flying.

Anyway, my place's obsession with meetings. strawberry floating hell. :fp: If it wasn't bad enough that everything seems to require a meeting, every few months we all get carted off to a country hotel for two days of utter bullshit. Usual team-building/motivation/company update shite. It's such a waste of time and money. Just let me get on with my job FFS, don't waste my time with this gooseberry fool. :fp:

I'm pretty sure I've had a customer attempt to call and me call them 4 or 5 times over the past few days because for some reason they can't or won't read an e-mail. It's perplexing and just makes me assume there is some problem when there probably isn't, normally it turns out they want to buy something else as well but have to use words to do that. Because they'd rather do it as one payment because paying twice for two things is too much work. OK I guess. My process is pretty well set up for stuff like:

Please make this thing
OK
Pay the invoice online with a debit card in 30 seconds
Wait a bit
Get the thing

Instead it's like

Please make this thing
OK
Don't pay the invoice
Call me 5 times
Don't pick up follow up
Don't read any e-mails
Don't reply to any e-mails
Don't get the thing
...

Or another day

I complained loudly about it last time and tried to return all of them, but I sold all of them anyway because they were actually really good, please make more
OK
Pay the invoice with the wrong payment method never mentioned anywhere
Incur additional £14 loss, destroy margins or issue a refund and ask to be paid again
Explain this wasn't as instructed in e-mail
Ignore the e-mail
Proceed bitterly with loss of funds for no reason

And today

I want to make some things but I have no idea what I want
...

People eh

Finally got myself a job interview in London next week :) in a asset management role. Never done asset management before and only met about 2 of the requirements in the job description but surprisingly got selected for interview.

Just reading up on the company and the role now.

Need to get out of my current company because they set my base location to an office 36 miles from where I live...not happy that I have to drive that distance each way into work. Also don't feel I am gaining much of any new experience now so time to move onto a new company and advance my career....even if it means moving half way down the country.

One of the people who work in the office have decided that the lights (normal office tube lights) put out too much heat for this weather. So have turned the lights out in half the office (we're very open plan, and lots is "empty" with no one working under them.

So I have to sit in a depressing badly lit office because it's just easier than arguing.

Do they produce heat?

Florescent tubes so "comparatively" efficient - and even then not to any degree that would affect an open plan office temperature in current conditions.

I was on a project a year or so ago where the team insisted on having the lights off almost all the time. We were in a small room with little or no natural light so it was basically like working in a cave. :dread:

Managed to convince them to work with the lights on after pointing out that sitting in a dark room staring at bright computer monitors was not good for your eyes!

Don't you have broken eyes, Hexx? Tell them you need the lights on to help combat eye strain (aren't there also health and safety regulations on required office lighting?)

They're on over the computer - but in the open floor/over printer etc all off. So we're Islands of light surrounded by darkness.

It's really not worth the fuss/argument that will be caused by calling them wrong.

HR aren't talking to me after I pointed out they were wearing flip flops (only part other than sole a Y-shaped tied between Big and second toe) after they sent round a passive aggressive"dress down" reminder e-mail

You can genuinely get depressed in low light conditions like that and if the computer screen is higher lux than your surroundings you can fatigue or even damage your eyes as well.

Unless somebody has scotopic sensitivity, in which case they should be provided with filter lenses, fluorescents do not produce notable amounts of heat unless they are especially high output. I know all about florescent gooseberry fool for my geckos and how they compare with LEDs. Their principle use in office settings is relatively high light output per watt as well as heat.. So it's not true.
