PostTerrible review of WiiSportsResort in ONM (now on RamRaider)
by KK » Sun Jul 05, 2009 11:55 am

I’ve just read the Wii Sports Resort Review – which is, quite possibly, the worst lead review I’ve ever read. It’s really, really bad. The word “well” & variations of “works really well” pop up to such an extent it’s almost a running joke. Were there no other descriptive words & phrases available?

Bear in mind this is one review...

When describing the Frisbee... “The controls work really well”
Wakeboarding...”The controls work well”
Table Tennis...”Actually works really well”
Power Cruising...”Actually works really well”
Table Tennis again...”In fact it actually works really well”
Archery...”But I have to admit [wait for it... – KK], this one worked really, really well”
Cycling...”Works well”
Archery for a second time..."Works very well"

It's just incredibly awful. And I'm not being harsh for the sake of it; this lacklustre quality of writing should not be leading in an official magazine.

It's good to know it works well at least.

There's even basic typo errors. Common at the best of times, but when you've already got a laughably bad review, things like "you have get to the front of the course over the whole competition" don't help in the slightest.

All's well that ends well, but the word almost seems like a nervous cop-out, and has me concerned.

Why do you need to look at it? KKLEIN's post pretty much sums it up. I can confirm that it's genuine, if that helps.

I don't doubt that it is, I just want to see it for laughs.

Well, I know a lot of people dislike repetition in professional writing, but personally I think it works really well.

What do you exspect from an official magazine? In my experience the quality of writing has never been good in official magazines.
