Big Brother, I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, any kind of reality show along those lines. Talent shows like the Factor aren't far behind, and then there's the BBCs utterly unspeakable efforts at creating "new" shows with "exciting" premises (see: Robin Hood, Bonekickers).

There is some good British TV around but you have to wade through a lot of crap to find it. I cant stand programmes like Big Brother, X Factor or any of those horrific dancing shows.

I have only caught the end of Battle of the Brains and it didn’t make me want to watch the start of it. I like Eggheads though!

In the various threads since I've been around these parts, Radar included, I don't recall either of you ever even watching it enough to be able to make a judgement.

I've often seen Gandalf in particular complain about it, but I'm yet to read anything which suggests he's ever actually watched it.

Last time I ever watched it, or paid attention to it, was season two. I've since saw small clippets of later seasons and I'm sorry but to sit and watch a load of idiots, TV wannabe's locked up in the some house, constantly bicker, argue, backstab, sulk etc etc is too unbareable. There's enough of that outside the front door, let alone on the TV screen.

Big Brother is just a vehicle for talentless people to get a little bit of fame. There isn't even the pretence of socio-psychological experimentation these days. It is merely a perpetuation of the Heat-esque, mock-celebrity culture that the mass media has foisted onto the general public - most of whom are too stupid to realise that they aren't getting the TV that they they want, but rather the TV that is cheapest to make.

When British TV is good it can be on par with anything but far to often things are dumbed down or cut to shreds to save money. Think of things like Planet Earth for instance and the money that must have generated for the BBC and then you start to wonder where it all goes.

Does this mean I should have my own TV show then given that I've managed to last 32 years?

Iw as really disappointed to hear it was making a comeback, and considering the amount of viewers it draws I fear there's probably no getting rid of it now. :(

The X Factor is awesome. How can you say that this isn't great entertainment: http://xfactor.itv.com/videos/video-det ... 200046.htm

That was pure TV gold. The problem with X Factor is that it's not worth watching after the initial auditions.

This is why the X-Factor is worth watching.

Also, this:

I vote this is now the Cheryl Tweedy (I refuse to call her 'Cole') appreciation thread!

EDIT:

X-Factor is good...

Dancing on Ice was on TV at the same time I was working in the lab on my dissertation, and one of the lab techs always brought in the Mail and the Express to put in the tea room. Every, and I mean every Monday, both papers would devote up to a page to the fact that Holly Willoughby was wearing a backless dress. It was laughable! Now Holly Willoughby in a frontless dress, that I'd watch, read about and generally worship...

The worst thing on TV is Sex and the City. I've actually had the misfortune of having to sit through some episodes of this shitfest recently as my girlfriend had the remote, and strawberry floating hell, it's terrible!

Course I have watched it before, I just don't find 15 talentless people stuck in a house for months watching their lives can be called "entertainment".
