I fell asleep! I don't remember the last time that happened, the excitement usually pulls me through. :shifty: I do think that it was a marked improvement over the last two SmackDown PPVs, which sadly isn't saying too much. Some solid matches, but bewildering booking and finishes. Confounding finish to the Styles and Owens match. What on earth was that all about?

They'd be crazy to have Cena break the record vs Mahal. Apart from the tag match, there wasn't really one match I enjoyed. I wonder where this Angle/Jordan storyline will go tonight.

20 times, 20 times, Man United...

Answer: absolutely nowhere.

If the crowd reaction is anything to go by, and this week paint drying makes more noise, this storyline is death already.

Isn't Orton also close. I could see them going level and then having a match between them to break the record.

Orton is on 13 titles, seen him tweet something about going for 14th at Battleground so couple more to go.

Cena will inevitably break the record, but it kinda sucks how quickly WWE are speeding it through. His win against AJ to tie the record ultimately mattered little given how quickly he lost it, and there is so little build to really make his next win memorable. Cena has attained a lot of goodwill these last few years, so it's a shame to see them fail to capitalise on it and produce an engaging long build. Really make it look like he is chasing that title win, and making it earned.

I do think though that WWE are concerned about Orton breaking the record as he's not far off and although his character is really stale I could see him wrestling for another ten years. That's why I don't expect him to beat jinder for the the title.

WWE would rather have Cena as its poster boy than Orton.

Why am I not surprised they are wasting Cena vs Nakamura on Smackdown rather than Summerslam or something.

Good to see Jericho back :D

He was over as hell in NXT while barely saying more than a sentence or two whenever he was on the mic. He's one of the most, if not the most, charismatic guys in the company and in all of wrestling just now, he doesn't need to talk because his mannerisms and body language are that damn good (I've seen him live, he's amazing). As we've seen with virtually every guy brought up from NXT apart from Owens, Joe and Neville, they have strawberry float all idea of what to do with him on the main roster, and the fact he's foreign is probably holding him back knowing how things work there.

WWE reporting record revenue today, yet the profits paint a rather different picture...

2015 Q1 and Q2 profits: $24.5 million
2016 Q1 and Q2 profits: $14.7 million
2017 Q1 and Q2 profits: $6 million

I mean if that pattern were to continue, next year they're heading for a loss.

Any clue as to where the rising costs are coming from? I assume these must also be a record levels of profits are so low.

The PPV and Network side of things actually made $1.8m profit this Q2 (they made a 8.3m loss last year), mainly due to such heavy cost cutting (less original programming, no pyro)

They're hiding behind revenue. In 1999-2000, the WWF made $68.9m in profits. The following year would have been even higher at $84.9m but the XFL disaster brought that down to 15.9m.

They made a record $214.6million for Q2 '17, up over the same period last year which was $199 million in revenues and $800,000 in profits.

An incredible amount of money is going out the door.

Watching Royal Rumble 1990 and had no idea Tony Schiavone was in the WWF. Thought he was always WCW.

What on earth are they spending their money on? I wonder if that's why Lesnar is expected to be off due to his salary.

Interestingly i assume Q2 includes the European tour income, which is a big earner for them. So would they possibly have made a loss in that quarter without that? Again that's assuming that they make a profit on the tour which you would bloody well assume they do.

He was briefly - just a year. He also did commentary for SummerSlam 1989 and a UK Rampage on Sky1 or Sky Movies (though I don't think any of those are on the Network). He's regularly said since he wished he'd never left, and Vince declined to have him back because it was unfair to keep moving his family. Though according to Bruce Pritchard it was actually because Linda McMahon hired him and Vince hated his Southern accent.

Strong rumours around of another superstar shake up after Summerslam which will include a number of wrestlers dropping down to NXT.

While I wait for the WWE to get round to uploading Thunder on the Network, I thought I'd start watching RAW, beginning with 1996. They're still only 45 minutes at this point so nothing really outstays its welcome, thankfully. Pretty much everything feels second rate to Nitro though. The RAWbowl to start off the year is absolutely terrible.

There are always moments of interest though, such as Steve Austin's WWF debut, and his first match against Matt Hardy; Phantom of the Opera Undertaker taking on dentist Kane; Goldust being a homosexual; Sunny doing various innuendo laced promos about liking it RAW; the Billionaire Ted skits (which on some episodes are the entire main focus of the show) having the unintentional consequence of setting up the nWo storyline for WCW later in the year so perfectly; the way they video-previewed what was coming up later in the programme, outing it as taped (yet still bizarrely doing the commentary Live from Stamford, spliced in with in-arena commentary from the table); airing 2 matches, including the main event, from In Your House 5: Seasons Beatings in almost their entirety which in hindsight must have pissed those that purchased it on PPV right off...though a nice bonus for those watching on Sky Sports (the first IYH was 14 in 1997 - like with WCW until that point, you had to buy the VHS); everyone, in particular Shawn Michaels, always calling it "the World Wrestling Federation" rather than just WWF...
