I guess this is as close WWE can get in the current wrestling climate to recreating Eric Bischoff turning up in 2002. But I don't know how many of the WWE audience is going to care or know Dixie Carter. It's about 5 years too late.

Though I suppose there's potential for a few surreal moments, such as Dixie coming face to face with AJ Styles and Samoa Joe again.

To be honest it's not like anything of real interest is happening in WWE at the moment apart from Joe/Lesnar. At least this gives a central storyline, which has been missing from WWE for a very long time.

Thing is, Dixie was a terrible, terrible actress...like an older, budget Stephanie McMahon.

But the other fact is, Dixie Carter isn't known the main stream WWE audience, and audience WWE has refused to mention or acknowledge competition with it's absolutely baffling.

This is such a terrible idea for all the reasons you've just stated, plus the biggest one - the Claire Lynch story drew no money! Why on earth would you want to rehash a rubbish story with a terrible actress like Dixie? It's crazy

Unless WWE/Vince are now confident of mentioning TNA on air or something now the brand is dead? I know he has never been keen on mentioning the competition, no matter how weak.

He is also obsessed with totally burying the opposition in victory, he probably sees this GFW rebranding as the final victory given TNA/GFW is probably below ROH in the pecking order.

I just think WWE and Vince are missing the fact that the overwhelming majority of fans never saw TNA as a serious prospect, so if this storyline is true then it will be largely irrelevant.

Interestingly though, WWE has pretty much asset stripped TNA without taking their video library. And being honest, there isn't much of their library worth owning. I do wonder though if we will get a swerve which leads to WWE rerunning their own version of Kurt vs Joe.

TNA was mentioned on the Kurt Angle 24 Special on Monday, and she was also interviewed...possibly a bit of foreshadowing.

WWE did have John Cena alude to Hulk Hogan and TNA when he was with the promotion but I think this is the first time they've actually name checked the company on WWE TV.

No I think they mentioned TNA on WWEs Jeff Hardy DVD they made after his return after his first run in TNA, 2010ish? TNA was also forcibly mentioned a few times on Byte this a few times back in the day. There was a nod to TNA during the first One Night Stand when Kid Kash came out and Joey Styles called him "Mr. TNA"..."Total Nonstop Attitude!", so close! So just off the top of my head TNA has been mentioned a few times on WWE programming, but not on "canon" programming like Raw or Smackdown.
Strange that Vince doesn't see ROH as competition worth avoiding, it seems they mention them freely when relevant and have even used ROH footage on DVDs, which is odd because ROH has arguably passed TNA/GFW as Americas #2 promotion.

You almost wish it was Dixie from what happened last night  Again, why would anyone think this is a good idea? Is Vince Russo back...

So they are kind of aping Ethan Carter III I guess. Hopefully this will end up more like Team Angle...

So
they've split up American Alpha who were previously one of the best tag teams in the company, and have Jason Jordan as Angle's his son, rather than former Olympic wrestler Chad Gable.

 I read a joke post about them using one of American alpha as kurts son yesterday. The thing is these angles never work, they always faid away and go wrong. It will either end up being forgotten, turn out that he's tricked kurt or WWE spend the next 20 years having to occasionally and awkwardly acknowledge that Jordan is kurts son when everyone knows that he's not.

Looking at the build to this, it feels like they've thrown this one together about 10 minutes before RAW started. Worst thing is, this is all much ado about absolutely nothing. Man has son from 28 years ago, that inexplicably could cost him everything. WHAT?! 1 week removed from the WWE 24 documentary that they plugged ON RAW where he admits to his life falling apart from drugs, his Dad was an alcoholic, suffered family bereavements, and already has children by different mothers.

Apart from Kane and the Undertaker, and Edge and Christian (which they then just dropped a few years ago 'oh we're just friends'), when have these fakes relative storylines ever worked? Let alone in 2017. It always somehow crosses that line where you can't suspend your disbelief, everyone knows it's all bullshit (yes, more so than normal), and therefore it's DOA. There's this massive disconnect fans just can't get behind.

"The illegitimate son gimmick"; presumably the Claire Lynch aspect will be the mother turning up and it being revealed that Gabel isn't actually his son, obviously, and everyone looking like a bloody idiot.

This is going to require some stellar acting/comedic bants for this to work. There's something about Jason Jordan though that makes me think Vince could easily turn him into 'the dozy son', like a Beaver Cleavage. Then there was Hornswoggle, Eugene...WWE's track record here isn't great. Even Big Show groans whenever he's reminded of being Andre's son in WCW for about a year.

The script and verbiage for Samson with his guitar really does feel like it's been lifted directly from Hollywood Rock.

When he says "Hold your applause" you can't help but imagine The Rock saying it.

I noticed on this week's RAW that they've dropped the purple ring ropes and writing on the canvas for the Cruiserweights.

This division is on borrowed time, isn't it.

The Observer also says Jordan was chosen over his tag partner Chad Gable at least in part as a rib on Angle for his history of dating black women.

What even is this company?

It's PPV Sunday!

I know we're all looking forward to that wooden monstrosity descending from the ceiling again.
