So basically everything blew up, the end.

I don't feel like much has been spoiled.

Basically Alyx would be Half-Life 3.

I genuinely lol'd when they announced their next game is a digital card game. You just couldn't make this gooseberry fool up.

I remembers so clearly being frustrated at having to wait a year or so after Episode 2 with that cliffhanger ending. I can't believe how long it's been.

There's actually a bigger gab between Episode 2 and now, than there was between Half Life 1 and Episode 2. Which is mind boggling.

Brad on one of the recent Giant Bombcasts put it well in saying that the people who want to make half life 3 probably left valve a long time ago and it's not fair to make the current regime work on something they're not creatively interested in.

I'm not sure valve will ever make a AAA single player game again tbh. :-(

Yeah, watched the associated video last night. Some really interesting stuff there, even if it's the equivalent finding the notes from from a brainstorming session

Nowhere else to put this so:

It's been all but confirmed Valve will be announcing a game called Half Life: Alyx at the Game Awards.

That's the shot. Here's the chaser

VR only

Just a gimmick m8. [/Ad7]

Looking forward to what they do with this. They've been dabbling and experimenting with VR for long enough so hopefully these three games wind up being something special. I do wonder what the other two will be though.

It'll surely be modded/hacked to work outside of VR fairly quickly. My prediction though is that it will be a very shallow experience and ultimately pretty bad, because I don't think Valve have the games developers still on board to make a successful Half-Life game. The overwhelming majority of the original team have left, and they haven't developed this kind of experience in a long, long time.

Would be happy to be proven wrong of course.

So this actually ties into some other Valve dev news that started doing the rounds today:

twitter.com/ValveNewsNetwor/status/1196140554188468224

The former staffers of Campo Santo, the Firewatch studio that Valve consumed last year, have taken the title of their latest game out of all their twitter bios, and it, Valley of the Gods, no longer appears on the Campo Santo site.

These are all devs known for their work on singleplayer, narrative based games.

I dunno. In terms of VR they've been working with the tech for a few years now and "The Lab" was a great set of tech/mini-games, so they're not inexperienced with the technology.

The actual game itself we'll see, but they know the responsibility of making this a Half-Life game and I don't doubt they'll put out something great. We just need to hope they have staff who are up to it.

The fun thing is that I can guarantee that people will hack the VR out of it, then complain that it's not great.

"Oh I played the non-vr version and it just wasn't any fun at all."

Also you could de-ice a street with the amount of salt in the resetera thread for this.

Where Valve are concerned things are pretty much in the lap of the Gods at the best of times.

Interesting. Makes sense that they'd need to beef up their teams to build a new single-player experience.

Like playing Wii Sports on Dolphin without a real Wiimote connected.

Of course it's not as fun.

This will bum me out if that's been cancelled. I figured something might have been up since it's gone incredibly quiet. :(

Also I’m surprised there isn’t a remaster of L4D and Half Life series for the PS4.
