Wow, is it really 10 years already? I still remember getting my machine on launch day & getting stuck in to Project Gotham Racing, NHL 12 and of course Halo.

Did you buy on launch day? What are your best Xbox memories?

I remember getting selected to test Xbox Live. I still have the pack of goodies they sent me. I remember signing up in a hurry and choosing a really gooseberry fool Gamertag that I haven't bothered to change in 10 years

I bought it on launch day and I got into Xbox Live early as well.

Doesn’t seem like 10 years at all. Although as MS killed it off after a couple of years, it does seem a long time since I owned one!

I didn't get one till they released the smaller controllers as standard, couldn't get on with the mega-brick original ones. I think the tipping point was comparing Return to Castle Wolfenstein with the PS2 version, the Xbox version had more features and looked better. I can't remember what I got with it, but I remember a lot of good times on Halo, Morrowind, Crimson Skies, I even have Steel Battalion, which most definitely owns.

I even played Halo 2 online with people from here in the Random Fury clan, wasn't really any good, but enjoyed it nonetheless.

I didn't mind the larger controllers. I have a load of them still boxed up. When MS dropped the price they compensated me by sending me a few controllers & games, which was nice.

I remember playing the Hitman games on the Xbox, it was vastly superior to the PS2 version. The console had so much more power.

I also remember the legendary PS2/GameCube/Xbox fanboy wars on Games Radar. Good times! 8-)

Corrected ;)

Indeed, back when there were sub-forums for each one, the frequency of troll-raids was incredible. Some really heated and ultimately irrelevant arguments that I'm glad to see have been left behind in a more enlightened *reads PS3/360 and Console/PC fanboy wars* nevermind... :shifty:

Fixed

The GR forums were overwhelmingly PS2-biased when I joined up.

I had forgotten that! Can’t remember what games I got free (there was a choice wasn’t there? One I got might have been one of the Abe games) but remember being impressed that they offered them!

The hilarity of The Rock unveiling the console with Bill Gates.

I bought the Xbox quite late into it's life. It was modded so never tried Live (and wouldn't be interested in paying for the service anyway). If I'd have bought the Xbox without reading some of the rabid comments on forums, I think I would have enjoyed it a lot more. Unfortunately the hype and fanboyism on forums lead me to believe I would be getting something amazing and the Xbox was unable to live up to my expectations. As a result, it was a disappointment and even though there was a bigger selection of games for it than the GC, found myself preferring the best of what the GC had to offer over the Xbox's best.

Yes?

 I love watching old game/system announcement/promo vids, everyone going about how awesome things are, that are now old hat and over the hill.

I think I chose Amped and something else, I can't remember now.

I remember how the industry slowly accepted Microsoft & the Xbox. As it became a serious player, more and more PS2-centric games starting appearing on the system. The first year or so the Xbox got a lot of ported PS2 games and it showed, but when the developers started to take advantage of what the Xbox could do, we saw some excellent games.

I've still got the promotional DVD. Can't remember if they sent it to me or whether I picked it up in a shop.

It's called 'XBOX: The Difference' & features people with ears on their forehead & other such wackiness. Think it's got music videos from Primal Scream & Gorillaz on there, amongst various game trailers.

I only picked the X-Box up for Halo.

Then it was slowly neglected for a while. Then came KOTOR1&2 and Jade Empire. Even picked up PGR and had fun with it for a while.

Then picked up Halo 2. It wasn't as awesome as the first Halo. In fact I think I've clocked over 100 hours just playing Halo co-op.

Then came the X-Box 360. Probably the second best console I've owned.

I remember dragging my wife (although we weren’t married at that time) to a midnight launch and getting a console with a copy of Halo. That’s all I wanted it for at the time and it’s all I played for ages. Good times.

I don't see it as is it already 10 years? I see it as, is it ONLY 10 years? Feels like an eternity since I left school and that was only 5 years ago. 10 Years ago feels like a lifetime even though I'm only 21. I was 11 years old when it came out. Jesus.

It's an age thing, I would have been 23 when it came out. I've been gaming since I was about 5 so I'd seen many generations of machines before the Xbox arrived therefore I'm in the "10 years already!" camp.
