He knew exactly how to wind the GC fanboys up. Does anyone remember his "Handle on This" account? Even the username name poked fun at the GC's handle, it drove Nintendo fans up the wall

I got it on launch with just Halo, went to a midnight launch, there was about 12 people there and some of them were just parents collecting it for kids and couldn't care less so there wasn't really any sort of buzz. I'd played Halo a bit on demo pods and knew it was going to be something special, but I couldn't have imagined the impact it would go on to have on my life.

I took it back to my then-girlfriend's house and played solo through to morning, her brother came down at about 7:30 and we restarted the game to play co-op and rinsed through to the end in one sitting. So many amazing memories and sensations that have stuck with me all this time.

I had no intention of buying an Xbox. Then, the night before launch, I saw Iain Lee on Thumb Bandits, raving about Halo, and I was won over. But I hadn't pre-ordered, so I figured I wouldn't be able to get one on launch day, but Electronics Boutique (ah, that name) still had a couple left.

I bought Halo, PGR and Munch's Oddysee, then Tony Hawk's 3 the next day. None of them disappointed.

When Xbox Live launched, there was no broadband in my area, so I had to wait a while. Signed up as soon as broadband was available though.

I had forgotten that! Can’t remember what games I got free (there was a choice wasn’t there? One I got might have been one of the Abe games) but remember being impressed that they offered them!

I got Amped and Rallisport Challenge. I remember reading that some people had successfully asked for a DVD kit instead of an extra pad so I tried it, and they sent me both!

I already told my launch story in the Halo thread  But nonetheless the Xbox was probably one ofmy favourite ever consoles that i've owned. Even though i got mine as a birthday present...looking back i have no idea how i convinced my mum to pay that much money for one  Credit to Microsoft i suppose for doing the whole compensation deal after they dropped the price of the console fairly soon.

Halo was the main highlight from the console launch - i'd never actually heard anything about the game at the time. 4 player split screen on PGR 1 and 2 with my brothers was awesome as well....a feature i do miss from the recent PGR games to be honest. Knights of the Old Republic is another game that came out of nowhere for me. This was at a time where i pretty much relied on Magazine reviews to decide whether i got games or not and i'm not really a Star Wars fan but after seeing the OXM review i thought there was noway i could ignore a game that reviewed that highly and well it did not disappoint at all. I do like the 360 a lot, but the Xbox 1 really did have some awesome games.

I was a PC, Dreamcast and Gamecube gamer when the original Xbox was around. Xbox didn't really interest me until the 360, which is now my favourite console!

I obviously didn't know how good Halo would turn out to be so I mainly got one at launch for PGR which to all intents and purposes was MSR2.

IIRC the Xbox was released (in the UK) in March 2002.

My birthday is in March so my mum ordered me an Xbox for it. Though from one of those pay monthly catalogues for a bit more money (cos we're poor). Anyways because the company was crap it didn't arrive in time for my birthday. Kept getting "it's currently out of stock" messages etc.

So I went back to just playing my PS2.

Then May came around and it was my brother's birthday. For that he wanted a Gamecube (which had not long been released). So the day of his birthday we all went into town and bought the Gamecube outright. Then when we got home there was a note saying a parcel had arrived when we were out. I went around to the post office to discover it was my Xbox finally arrivng.

Making it 2 New Consoles Day!! Which was amazing.

He set his Gamecube up in the front room and I brought my TV through so I could have my Xbox set up in there too. Then we spent the weekend alternating between Halo and Smash Bros Melee.

Oh and because of the massive delay in getting the Xbox the price was reduced so it worked out cheaper than buying it in a shop.

Christ I remember this like it was yesterday. For a network TV show Thumb Bandits was excellent. I loved my Xbox, say what you want about its library of games but from a technical standpoint it obliterated the competition. Was amazed by Halo when I got my Xbox in 2003.

It was a narrow library, luckily it revolved around my tastes

It also got Strangers Wrath, Doom 3 and Far Cry which the other consoles couldn't handle. Plus Pariah which I loved online :shifty:

Yeah it was also very buggy, they fixed it after launch and if you sent your disc back you got the fixed version with a slip from SEGA, don't know hoe many people knew or bothered so it is probably quire rare 8-)

The soundtrack was amazing the "Will Smith" rip off track will live with me forever
