Dark is an acquired taste, whereas Milk is more universally loved and easier to get into.

The euphoric and stimulating effect from the greater cacao content in dark chocolate would have certainly been a more rewarding experience for these men. But sure, the crappy chocolate they got does indeed represent what most in the northern hemisphere eat, I suppose.
