Brexit wasn't exactly in the Tory Manifesto.

You should also level the same criticism at anyone who voted Labour since the Labour party are pretty much full on board with it.

Labour opposed even offering a referendum on the EU at the last election. People who voted for them in 2015 weren't voting for the current leadership position.

So exactly the same as people who voted Tory in 2015 weren't voting for the current leadership position (or even Leader) then?

Pages 72 and 73 : https://www.conservatives.com/manifesto :simper:

Looking at those pages I can't see anything about leaving the EU?

Which also says nothing about leaving the EU.

Saying "We will hold a referendum" is not the same as "We will leave the EU"

"We will honour the outcome of the result"

So technically they voted for this but voting for a government hat had said they would allow for the set of circumstances to allow to exist.

So people who voted Labour in 2001 voted for the Iraq War and every death/event that happened as a consequence? :simper:

So, like leaving the EU wasn't in the Tory manifesto then.

If Labour had offered a referendum on the Iraq war in their manifesto then you might have a point.

Exactly, the conservatives had i thier manifesto the promise to take us down a path that could lead to where we are now, labour didn't have that so it is a non point.

The people voting didn't vote directly for it obviously, but if Cameron is to blame for all this as has been said because he called for the referendum, those that votes for the conservatives while that was in the manifesto take a part in that blame, host is how it works.

Your vote means you want what is in the manifesto to be done, and so by voting conservative you voted for the referendum to be carried out.

I voted for the Lib Dems and to remain in the EU because I'm a winner.
Constant winning.

I'd say the blame is on the colossal idiots who voted leave, plenty of whom were non Tory voters.
You also had a Tory leadership that was firmly in favour of remain, whilst a Labour leadership that was firmly in favour of Leave during the referendum.

Voting for a Referendum on thing ≠ Voting for thing

This is a very interesting insight in the world of Lagamorph. A world where having an election manifesto that states they will offer an in/out referendum on the membership of the EU for some reason doesn’t count as putting Brexit into their manifesto. A world where Conservative voters can in no way be blamed for the Conservative party heading full steam towards a no compromise hard Brexit.

The ones who actually voted for Leave can absolutely be blamed.
But a manifesto saying that they'll hold a referendum isn't the same as a manifesto pledge saying we will absolutely leave the EU.

I've a feeling this is going round in circles, but let me get this right. A commitment to hold a referendum AND state that they'll uphold the result is in no way saying that we'll leave the EU?

That’s such a politician answer.

The Conservatives are the ones who pledged in a manifesto to hold the referendum. The Conservatives are the ones who ran the referendum without setting any thresholds. The Conservatives are the ones who following the referendum decided that it meant full on "hard Brexit". The Conservatives are the ones who are deciding to burn all our bridges with the EU if we don't get exactly what we want.

So yeah, the Conservative voters are to blame for all of that.

I'd say the morons who voted leave (Who come from across the entire political spectrum, mostly Labour in my particular area of the country) are the ones to blame, but we'll just have to agree to disagree.
And you certainly can't say that Conservative voters are the ones to blame for how May is approaching things. There was absolutely nothing in the manifesto to say anything about a Hard Brexit.

Nope, still named "The EU Referendum: The UK votes Leave" and is on the first page of Stuff.

How pervasive brexit arguments are in flipping everything. I don't think a day goes by where it isn't mentioned somewhere in something I come across.
