Everyone knows grooming is a waste of time, you go back in and it's floppy mess again. So just give up and spend the same energy on exerting genuine confidence.

Some people like looking nice. There's nothing inherently disingenuous about taking pride in your appearance.

That sort of started as sarcasm and then turned into a statement that confidence matters.

Nothing wrong with looking good, but too much vanity can just make you look like a pansy with no guts to go along with it.

I've got through some tough tests without looking amazing and I guess drawing attention to your clothes and and hair etc if you keep messing with distracts away from the person that matters.

Maybe I'm just talking about twitchy constant hair adjusting types who can't even make eye contact or shake hands before turning to jelly. Looking good definitely can help your self esteem, sure, but it's just as easy to worry too much about how you look.

I'm over labouring this, which is similar thing.

I'm always curious how many attempts it takes Instagramers to decide on a perfect photo, and then how much longer they spend filtering it.

strawberry float that. Faking an already ironic photo. Seriously.

Have you ever seen a big insta users photostream eg when fixing a phone or computer or whatever. Thousands of the same photo. It's horrifying. What a world.

People are so vacuous and narcissistic these days.

Went out to a pretty swanky restaurant in London for the wife's birthday last week and the couple next to us were taking selfies and photos of their evening out for most of the time they were there. They weren't even really talking to each other all that much (and the conversation they did make was about their photos), it's like they couldn't just enjoy being in a nice restaurant having a nice meal. I wanted to smash their heads into their plates.

People do seem to spend longer documenting their nights out than actually having a good time.

It does my strawberry floating nut in, everyone is so self obsessed. It's all image, showing off what you're doing, who you're with, where you are. Last time we went on a 2 week holiday we were sitting watching couples supposedly on romantic holidays together just doing exactly as Preezy says - taking endless selfies and not interacting with each other at all. One couple were taking this lovey dovey cheek to cheek head over the shoulder hugging photo by the sea and the woman was huffing at the bloke for not posing in exactly the right way, then once they'd nailed the massive smile photo she did a full and immediate scowl (exactly like that trump gif currently doing the rounds) pushed the guy away and actually told him to strawberry float off.

I genuinely don't understand this - I went to Italy with the gf last year and took photos of the stunning scenery, really pleasing architecture and interesting things. I know what I look like, people I know know what I look like so isn't what i'm looking at more interesting? Sure we took a couple of selfies but didn't spend ages posing for them or strawberry floating around with filters afterwards.

I can at least kind of see the appeal in a quick selfie when at a new location or somewhere interesting. I don't really do it, but there's something psychologically satisfying about having hard evidence that you were in a cool place or situation, I think. And insofar as photos are about saving memories, maybe you want to remember what you looked like on the day or who you were with, and I think that's fair enough.

That's an altogether different urge, though, than the (I assume) hardcore narcissism that would lead one to take a trillion selfies throughout an evening and spend more time filtering them on their phone than enjoying the fun thing they're ostensibly doing. Those people have problems.

Yeah there's nothing wrong with a quick selfie, but I've been on nights out where the whole night is just people getting pissy because I don't want to spend the entire night posing in yet another strawberry floating selfie.

It's just so weird.

That's happened to me too, it's indeed very weird. I'm generally happy to appear in the occasional photo, but deep down I'm actually a bit photo-shy, and I have had people get for-real angry at me for not being in the mood to pose in front of thing-we're-doing with them.

There's a name I have for these people.

It starts with C and rhymes with punts.

Never too early for Chocolate. Although I usually wait until the week after and get them cheap. :shifty:
