Yeah, she's being fairly unreasonable. There are a lot of arguments floating around online about violence in response to bigotry right now, though, so people are going into these discussions already pretty pent up, on both sides.

Privilege isn't about having a great life, or having never suffered in any form, and people shouldn't make those assumptions. But it does mean, however, that you can't just say things like "imagine if the genders were reversed," and expect people to think you've really understood the situation, because it shows that you haven't considered the ingrained societal prejudices within which that incident is framed.

So basically I should be prejudice about people experiencing prejudice? Got it.

Fade, the advice I can give you is that you think too much and seem to seek the approval of women when discussing gender inequality to validate your views. That's the second time I've seen that you've justified your own views on something because you shared it with other women or they "liked" it or something like that. Can't you just have them, and not worry about being right or wrong, or whether someone else is right or wrong?

Both seem like a waste of your energy, yet you continue to torture yourself. Just let it go, you've taken a disagreement on some comments on some blog to another forum to complain about it, where else and how many times have you discussed this?

I do the same thing quite a lot and it's not very healthy. If you feel you've suffered an injustice, make that observation and then get on with your life. The answer isn't going to come around by revisiting the problem over and over.

I know for most people that's what this thread is for, but rarely do debates continue on in seek of a grand answer. Some people are just dicks/wrong, and there's better stuff to do than mull over it for hours/days/months. Speaking from experience I've held onto gooseberry fool for years and bemoaned it possibly hundreds of times and that will make you quite ill.

People who try to type as fast as possible to almost show off how quickly they can do it, then spend half of that typing time hitting the delete key because they're making loads of mistakes. Just type slowly, you're not impressing anyone. Sounds like someone just waggling their fingers over all the keys for 5 seconds followed by 5 seconds of the delete key being hammered.

I'm actually a very good typist. So if you are anywhere near me, the delete key being pressed is not a common occurrence.

(Only pressed delete once in the sentence above).

(But three times in the one above)

If you're not using every single finger and your thumbs to type then you're doing it wrong.

I used to, but rarely do any more. Probably about 5 or 6 fingers but still both thumbs.

I typed this just so I could figure out what fingers i use to type.

Apparently I use mostly my index finger on my left hand (unless I need shift or capslock) and my middle and index finger in my right hand.

trying to type with all fingers feels unnatural.

The moron who, whilst driving his open-top sports car in the sunshine, sped up and overtook a bus whilst on a raised pedestrian zebra crossing. Just because it's a lovely afternoon and you're in a nice car doesn't mean you have to go into twat mode!

Of a similar theme to Jawa - a guy in a souped-up white Mercedes flashed his lights at me to get out of the way on a tiny strip of dual carriage last night. Yes well done, you have a nice car, we're all very impressed.

I gave him the finger and slowed down 8-)

Or...

jawa and Prezzy are undertaking a vendetta against people who only want to test out how fast their cars can go. The drivers hadn't killed anyone (yet) and so jawa and Preezy's actions should be seen as provacative and a refusal to accept that some folk want to be knobs.

"Alternative facts" 8-) .

Nobody is saying that all white people are the same, but what they do have in common, is that white people in the first world will never experience life in the same way a person from any other ethnic background will. Privilege is a symptom of racism, or any other power imbalance based on prejudice.

Choose one.

The problem you seem to be having is that you don't recognize that the idea of "white privilege" is in itself stereotyping, and there are several problems with this. First among them is that there is no real agreed upon classification for "white people". There are loads of people who identify themselves as being white, but who others might not acknowledge as such, for example lots of people from the middle east, or northern Africa would consider themselves as being white, but might not be treated as such. Secondly other factors such as being an immigrant or speaking with an accent can also be causes for the same kinds of racism and prejudice behavior associated with racism towards non-whites.

I'm not saying that there are no advantages towards being the dominant group in a given society, but saying that all members of that group have an advantage is misleading.

I'm so strawberry floated off with Amazon logistics. Ordered an SD Card and a Beard trimmer, both meant to be coming tomorrow.

Instead, they delivered today, to a house god knows where down my road, the name they put on it I've never heard of and when I follow the really awful map they've drawn it seems to lead to an empty house.

Thankfully Amazon are sending me the stuff again, but by god I don't understand what's so difficult about not delivering over 5 houses away and claiming that's your neighbour.

I'm really hoping the people who took it in might deliver it, but I'm not holding out hope.
