It's a perfectly legitimate word, but people keep using it as an adjective rather than a verb.

The most vocal moaners are the same people who spent last week talking about how much they are looking forward to their sun holiday in Spain or Italy. I guess sunburn doesn't exist in the Mediterranean.

I think to be fair the hot sun can be annoying if you are going to work but okay if you are lying on a beach. I feel that's a self-consistent, not terribly out-there viewpoint.

Just like how snow is great if you're playing in the snow with your dog all weekend but shite if you have to get to the office.

If we were a month into sweltering 25+°C days they might have something approaching the shadow of a point but we have had two good days so they ain't got gooseberry fool.
I've pale skin even by Irish standards, almost comically so. If you put a photo of a pint glass full of milk next to a photo of my forearm most people would struggle to tell the difference. When I'm buying sun screen I have to go buy the stuff for babies or I get burnt to a crisp. Please bear that in mind when I say that yesterday was the first day all year I felt the need to break out the factor 50 to protect my pasty hide. So when some jackass, who this time last week was rabbiting on about how much they're looking forward to jetting off and working on their tan starts bitching and moaning about how a 16°C heat is just too damned much for them to take I find that to be annoying. In fact I think I should be allowed to go over to their desk and beat the life out of them. Normally I'd say beat some sense into them but when we're dealing with such a heightened level of dumbfuckery I reckon the human body would give out before that would be achieved.
16°C! The office is no warmer today than it was all year. The only difference we can see is that some of the plants near the car park and starting to flower. Oh the humanity.

Surely addictive is a better word to use in all instances?

By taking up smoking he is basically just addicting himself to nicotine.

Seems like a resonable word to me.

Just registering my annoyance early ahead of tomorrow when everybody will be saying "Hur hur, happy Star Wars day, hur hur" as if it's somehow funny or there is actually a thing called Star Wars day. You see it loads online which is bad enough, but you can guarantee some cretin will say it in person in the office or something. :dread:

There is a thing called Star Wars Day. Not only did you just bring it up but it even has its own Wikipedia page.

Edit:

You're going to lose your gooseberry fool when you read about 5 May being known as "Revenge of the Fifth".

Sounds like someone isn't getting with the program. I suggest we all PM Lotus with special Star Wars day messages so he feels a part of the celebration. Celebrate Star Wars day you will (please read with the voice of Yoda for maximum enjoyment).

Well yes I brought it up because people say it every year, not because it's an actual thing. Unless random people just saying that a day is Star Wars day makes it so, in which case I say that 4th May (doesn't work if you say the date properly...) is also 'Anybody Who Calls Today Star Wars Day is a Massive Retard Day'. There, off to write the Wikipedia entry.

Surely days become a thing when people start making it a thing? Hallowe'en was originally just one weird kid hanging around outside a burial mound in 409BC, his genius was coming up with an excuse why and now we all have to dress up as sexy nurses every year.
