I just Googled "Nottingham Forest football team" and the Wikipedia article confirms that they are ranked lower than many of the teams I've heard of.

Take that Bob, I bet you're humiliated. You might be a fancy-pants manager but the team you like are [...checks Wikipedia again...] a whole league below the team in my home-town. Try to hold back your tears.

(I hope I did that right. Any tips for next time, Moggy?)

The work topic is where all the people without management experience tell people with management experience how they should be doing their jobs. It's definitely more suitable.

Better put a ;) or Moggy will have my balls.

I have management experience you banana split. 8-)

Haha yeah this is how I imagine, no matter how good the company there are still idiot callers and pressure it's how call centres are so there will people that get sick of it and want to not come in as they didn't sleep well, are hung over, whatever.

You're not wrong. When I moved to where I am now the induction included half a day with the different departments in the building. Listening to the gooseberry fool that people have to deal with day in day out, people literally screaming down the phone and talking to the call handler like a piece of gooseberry fool made my bloody boil.

"Why didn't you send me a reminder about my MOT? It's expired now!"

"You specifically asked us not to when we asked you for permission last year, in preparation for GDPR..."

"Well this is all your fault, I demand that you get me in for an MOT this afternoon, or I'll be sending you a bill for all the taxis I have to take to work now."

"..."

So glad I don't have to deal with those chucklefucks any more.

I'm so glad the last time I had to deal with an actual member of the of the public at work was 12 years ago, and not had to deal with actual users for any considerable time for about 9 or years now.

I worked in Woolworth's for just under 4 years and the good thing was my lack of contact with the public as I worked in the stockroom.
I don't know why but people treat shop staff like gooseberry fool on a regular basis and it just makes you lose all hope for humanity.

Decided to give Twitter another go but every other tweet on my feed is one of their sponsored ads. Is there a (decent) Twitter app for Android that is ad-free?

One thing I would say to DH is that keeping in line with / copying the internal operations and work ethic of your competitors does not make you competitive. I'd say a company that thinks like that is more likely to sink in what I will bullshit term the "heavy middle", but hey I only have experience sinking with ships because the captain is drunk.

It isn't just copying. There is "innovation", but that is pretty much driven by getting costs down. There are very few if any operational improvements that benefit the workforce.

Yes?

I was a regular customer at a woolworths in devon, and my experience was the opposite, a staff member there used to treat me like absolute dirt, it really was service with a scowl.

Regular breaks, massages, visiting GPs and psychologists (when needed), subsidised lunches, free drinks and better support from experienced staff might help.

I don't get subsidised lunches. :x

One thing that is getting annoying now is the crappy air quality around here, some of the farms are cutting their wheat which fills the air with dust, and that added to the usual traffic fumes, salisbury plain grass fires, and stool bloke's camper van is making for a particularly toxic soup.

At least once it eventually rains the air should start to clear.
