strawberry float horse people.

My cycle in is on a cycle path with a horse path next to it and in so many places down it there is huge heaps of horseshit because the strawberry float horse owners take their stupid horses off the horse path on the cycle route to gooseberry fool

banana splits the lot of them, turn the strawberry floating horses to glue.

You can tell that really annoys Errkal because his profile name colour has gone from pink to purple.

There's always someone who'll trot the gooseberry fool jokes out in these situation.

I quite like them, but they're not to everyone's taste.

Perhaps gallop should do a poll?

Ok I think we've beaten these puns like a dead horse, let's stirrup some other controversy to talk about.

There is so much broken glass on the cycle paths on my route to work. It's like it's left there on purpose as a trap. So far I've managed to skilfully avoid it but it's only a matter of time before my tyres go pop.

Same here on my route, I'm strawberry floating stunned I haven't got a puncture yet. I walk the first section of it with the dog in the mornings and I often make a mental map of all the bits so I can avoid them at least on that part.

And the horse gooseberry fool, oh god the horse gooseberry fool. Mountains of the stuff, all over the place and not only do you have to avoid that, but after a few days it starts to break down and spread out, meaning you have a cartoon version of it like some oil slick from whacky racers. I bet if it wasn't posh twats leaving that gooseberry fool everywhere there would be fines in place.

They really should be made to clean up horse gooseberry fool, doesn't really seem fair for dog owners to get fined yet a much larger animal doing much larger gooseberry fools is exempt from its owne/rider having to clean up after it.

gooseberry fool is gooseberry fool and no-one wants to step in it, regardless of the animal responsible for it. I've had it on my wheelchair wheels a few times and its horrific trying to get it out of the tyre treads.

Why do people persist with yawnsome email etiquette at work when it has long since become inappropriate. Their insufferably unnecessary politeness really grates.

I like sending emails with one line that gives clear action, no dear blah, thank you for your blah, I look forward to hearing from blah, kind regards and best blahs.

And don't get me started on banana splits that write emails like this:

"Might I request if you could please loop in the relevant stakeholders by initiating contact with the aforementioned at your earliest convenience..."

Right, so you mean "Please contact everyone involved asap."

I think people believe throwing in more words makes them seem clever but in fact it has precisely the opposite effect.

Doesn't take any more time to write "hello" though does it? Both extremes of the scale are bad. If it's just a one line "do this job" then you look like a bit of a bell but if you fill it full of waffle and workspeak then you also look a bit of a bell.

I always include a polite "Hope everything's okay over there!" or ask about the weekend or something just because it's good manners. I've always found the one line emails a bit rude, like they're too "busy" and important to make smalltalk with the peons.

Exaggerating a bit when I say one line, I'll still include a line each for Hi and Thanks unless it's my direct team.

And you can still be concise and polite. "Please could you (do this job)" rather than "Do this job", of course!

It's always irked me slightly when people directly address e-mails, or don't address them at all, for example:

[Name],

Do this thing.

Regards (or even worse, rgds),

[Name]

Often without any punctuation like paragraphs or full stops.

But what REALY annoys me is when someone writes a perfectly good e-mail but they have a signature set up in lower case for no reason. For example one supplier ends every email with:

regards

Emma

Also e-mails where their name is set up in lower case, looks incredibly amateur. I feel I have to go into my CRM and capitalise THEIR OWN BLOODY NAME.

But I get many e-mail related annoyances as about 90% of my business is run through various filtered e-mail mechanisms (but is actually a ticketed system with statuses and connection to a PMS etc).

"It should be common sense to just accept the message Nintendo are sending out through their actions."

FAO Bob: You know your team better than I do, obviously! I just wanted to let you know - since you're a manager and presumably have power over these people - that I personally write quite formal emails because I have social anxiety and worry incessantly that anything other than a super-polite request will cause offence. I imagine people replying things like "How dare you assume I'm available to help you?" or "Why can't you do it yourself? What do we pay you for?". (It actually makes writing emails a really emotionally intense and upsetting process.)

I'm aware it has the opposite effect sometimes - "why does Karl still do this, aren't we friends, or at least coworker-friends?" - because I know people even worse & more extreme than me and that's what I think about them sometimes! But I still can't help myself. :(

It must be very difficult and I totally understand. It's a bit of a minefield because you could send either style to two people at the same time and both of them could take offence vice versa, at one but not the other.

I'm lucky to have such a great team that I've built solid relationships with and I can communicate with them however I like. As I was reading your post I was tagged in a meme by one of them while another messaged me two words on WhatsApp, literally 'fat' and 'strawberry float' because I'm currently sat in a restaurant eating both a pizza and a lasagne.

I suppose I just want people to communicate in the most efficient way possible while still maintaining a reasonable level of respect, because in my opinion communication is the most important thing.

Totally, I wasn't trying to make you feel bad. It's fine to find it annoying, I find it annoying sometimes when other people do it. I just wanted to give you a perspective & explanation because I was kind of imagining some parallel me out there who's on the verge of ruining his relationship with his boss or whatever. :slol:

I always start with "Hi", because it just feels a little rude to start with just someone's name. If the e-mail goes back and forth though I'll drop the "Hi" line. Unless it is a customer then the "Hi" remains.

Also, I treat everyone equally, regardless of whether they are a reportee, a pleb or SVP.

Regards,

Death's Head.
