I’m stunned that you would ever let a bottle get anywhere near ending....

but I just pour it away, we always have at least 3 or 4 full bottles in the cupboard anyway

Oh.

That's exactly what you do on your hair though since you don't use shampoo neat, so you are wrong.

Richard wears shampoo as product confirmed, rise it out at the end of the day. Must smell nice.

On that note, and without wanting to sound too much like an 'Era poster - any "non poo-ers" in the house?

I'm sure it was a big thing recently about how we shouldn't be using any shampoo in our hair at all and actually just washing with water is the best approach?

Is using just water really better?
I can't say I've noticed any negative impact from using Shampoo for the last 30 years.

I used shampoo for the first 25 or so years of my life, after which my hair started falling out. I am left with no choice but to place the blame squarely on the various shampoo manufacturers, it has nothing to do with the fact that all the other men in my family have male pattern baldness. The shampoo is to blame!

Me neither, but there was definitely a push for it as being a good thing recently. Apparently the hairs natural oils will deal with any grease and cleaning with only water won't destroy all the natural micro-organisms that are apparently good for us!

I used to wash my hair once a week but a month in Asia in the sweaty summer and swimming pools really strawberry floated that and now I can barely eek out 4 days. Pure shite given it’s now too winter to be washing it in cold water so the Color fades double quick. Only dyed it two weeks ago and it’s half way to pastel pink already.

I wash my hair once a week, in the meantime I just brush it a lot and pat with water and towel down to remove excess oils. But yes those oils are important for the health of your hair and scalp and stripping it every day with hot water can give some people eczema and other issues. I use an anti-dandruff shampoo and conditioner and also put in a small amount of coconut oil and only use water-based product for styling and I don't have any issues (I used to have terrible eczema on the back of my head/neck probably because I was using a petroleum/oil-based hair product (Dax) :dread:).

It doesn't really matter what product you use (some people are allergic to Sodium Laurel Sulphate or something) just not too frequently, yes you absolutely clan wash too much and ruin your skin, but it depends on your pores and how oily in general you naturally are.

I also clip it pretty short along the sides and medium/long on top, as I have a big head so can't do super short, which helps reduce any build up dramatically. I used to have really long hair but for some reason can't really do it anymore, had the eczema for 5 years or so and it strawberry floating sucked. It's still in one of my ears.

I do kind of miss the compliments on my "mane" and head banging suitableness but it was an arse to manage and I looked like a bum even more than I do normally (although at a certain length and if it's nice straight hair that sort of stops provided you brush it constantly). I still look like something from the 80s in my passport photo with half of one side of my hair bleached blonde (I guess that's fair as I was born in '89). Like Ziggy Stardust or something :msgreen:

I only ever wash mine if it’s all horrible after being in the sea or covered in mud or something, and sometimes when I get it cut. Slowly weened off shampoo about 3 years ago and my hair is in better condition with less maintenance compared to before. I don’t really use any product in it though which probably helps.

In contrast I was mine each day. It's very greasy otherwise and harder to style.

I wash mine every 2 days, otherwise my hair looks like I've been dousing it in oil.

Is that why your hair has the texture of paper mache? ;)

I'm tempted to try weaning myself off it just out of curiosity more than anything. I used to keep my hair reasonably long and so back then it would get very greasy quite quickly and I wouldn't have stood a chance at not washing it regularly then but now I'm back to being short I might be able to try it without looking like something that climbed out of a swamp!

That’s the thing, you need to slowly wash it less and less until it no longer relies on it. Start like 5 times a week, then 3 or 4, then twice etc. It’s more difficult if you have long hair - you would probably still need to wash it once a week in that case, even after winding down shampooing it.

There’s no real downside to shampooing your hair daily as far as I’m aware though. Was just something I wanted to try and seemed to work!

You should get your partner to read this - he's encouraging bacterial growth in those bottles:
