Once we had a delivery where nobody was in so they put a card through the door saying they had left the item in a "safe place"... it was inside our wheelie bin which was on the road because it was collection day. Idiots. :fp:

My favourite Amazon moment was when they delivery to a neighbour, put the number of the card and drew me a little map of how to get to my next door neighbours house.

Given the trouble most delivery drivers seem to have in finding places I'm surprised they know what a map is!

I quite like the services which allow you to track your delivery driver by GPS and see how many deliveries they are doing, which number delivery you are etc. However most of the times I have seen these there appears to be very little logic in the route they are using - often I check and the driver is only a couple of streets from me making deliver number 10 for example, but the system will say that I am delivery number 100 and they aren't going to get to me for another 4 hours!?

It's scummy that you're keeping stuff sent to you in error and not even telling them about it.
Chances are if you told them they'd just tell you to keep it if it was nothing too expensive, but you've just decided off your own back to keep it and strawberry float everyone else.

Also this,
Rax wrote:Gonna keep them and get in touch with Amazon next week to let them know her order never showed up and get them to send a new one out. Free Pokemon cards for me. :datass:

You said her order arrived, but you're going to tell them it didn't so they send another one out for free? That's incredibly scummy.

I'm not sure what actual legal obligation anyone has to return goods delivered in error, but certainly from a moral perspective you should at least inform them of their mistake and where practical provide some degree of assistance in rectifying it.

I don’t think it is all that scummy to keep the contents of a parcel that has been sent to you in error. The mistake is with Amazon/the delivery company and I don’t think it should be up to the individual to waste their time reporting it. If Amazon are losing money from people keeping things, then they need to improve the service of the couriers that they use.

Isn’t it illegal to open up mail addressed to somebody else though? I am not sure if parcels count.

Really? That parcel could be a child's birthday present, or a care package for an elderly relative, or medicine for goodness sake! At what point did we decide that putting in a bit of effort to help someone else out when a genuine mistake has been made was "wasting time"?

EDIT: Put it this way - if something important that you were waiting on had somehow been sent to the wrong place would you not want the person who received it to at least raise a finger to try and get the issue resolved for you more quickly than you just having to wait?

I think in the case of a massive retail outlet making a logistics error like Amazon with billions in profit, you shouldn't be obligated to rectify their mistake for them because they can easily afford to do so and yes it creates work for the recipient for a generally thankless task that was never their doing.

However for personally addressed packages obviously from humans that have gone to the wrong door or postcode or something like that you should follow it up because the contents might be something like a special gift or something important like forgotten medication or a phone or all sorts, or cash and cheques. Some gooseberry fool like Pokemon cards, that's Amazon's loss.

Rax said they did check for neighbours etc and there is no information inside, so I'm sure if it was something like that it would be forwarded appropriately. fwiw stuff gets misdirected to my mum's from a similar address and couriers knock on our door with missing numbers on the address etc. and I sort them out.

Have you ever used Amazon?

If your parcel doesn't arrive on time, you complain and they then send you a replacement straight away.

Your system seems to involve somebody ringing Amazon to declare they have received something for somebody else, returning that to Amazon and then Amazon sending that back out to the person who originally ordered it.

Nobody is losing out from Rax keeping what he received and it will also be resolved a lot quicker for the person whose order it was.

100% this. If it is a package intended for a neighbour then it is scummy to keep it and it is scummy to keep it if it is obviously a package sent by an individual.

Amazon can get strawberry floated if they think I will waste my time redirecting things for them. If it bothers Amazon then they ought to employ better couriers, not expect the public to sort out their mistakes for them.

Not if they're delivered by Amazon.

Which is Amazon’s problem.

Explain how somebody returning items to Amazon will help anybody get their Secret Santa present quicker?

You tell Amazon there is a mistake, they look in to it and the person stands a good chance of getting something in good time. If you don't they could think it's just been held up or delayed because of the Christmas volume.

Well in the hypothetical situation that a Secret Santa present is delayed because Rax decided to keep Pokémon cards, then I agree with you.

Usually, it will not make anything quicker, it is Amazon or Amazon's couriers fault and I don't think people should have to waste their own time to rectify Amazon's mistakes.

You said her order arrived, but you're going to tell them it didn't so they send another one out for free? That's incredibly scummy.

One of her orders showed up, her second order has not. The second box was a bunch of stuff she didnt order, so we will be letting them know we didnt recieve the other order.

Her name and address was on the box so it wasnt an incorrect delivery, the error lies entirely with Amazon. If we received a package that had a different address on it or an individual had sent something to us in error then of course wed try to put that right. But the worlds biggest online retailer being done out of €40 worth of stuff? Im not gonna feel bad about that at all.

I live in a estate where my road and the road that leads onto it have very similar sounding names. (10 Something Park Drive and 10 Something Park Close)

Every so often a delivery intended for me gets delivered to the same number house of mine but on the similar sounding road (it's never happens the other way because they come before me)

Every time it happens they sign for it and keep whatever it was.

Last time it happened it was a wireless pad for the mini SNES.

strawberry float off

White knighting Amazon.

Makes no difference if you live near him or not, Amazon will replace said misplaced package to the intended recipient free of charge.

That's different as they know it should be at your household, why don't you go round and get it if you basically know the house it will be at?
