UPS.

I contacted their customer support service yesterday after a package I ordered failed to arrive. Got an automated message acknowledging that I had filled out a support query. Almost twenty four hours later and I still haven't heard anything else from them.

Cheers lads. Ya bunch of wankers.

People who constantly and loudly announce what they want to do or what they are about to do and then spend the next 30 minutes repeating it.

"I really need the toilet!"

"I could do with a fag!"

"I am so hungry!"

"I am leaving in a minute!"

All of those have a simple solution, just go and do it!

She is guilty of that sometimes, but it wasn't her I was referring to there.

I imagine those people on Facebook have never quite grown up and are trying to show off by thinking that they are breaking their bedtime curfew.

There are a few women at my place who always announce "I need a wee!" or "Just going for a wee!" to the whole office. Not sure why they feel the need to tell people that.

Anyway, so-called 'smart' motorways have been boiling my piss lately, along with motorways in general.

> People who can't bear slowing down and think that suddently swerving into the next lane at 70mph+ with no warning is a better alternative.
> Variable speed limits that make no sense. National speed limit down to 40mph, then a few hundred yards later up to 50mph, then 40mph again, then national speed limit. Over such a short length of motorway, literally about a mile or two, what purpose does this have?
> Signs saying 'reports of incident' and having 40mph limits as a result. Is there ever an incident? Of course there isn't, but better slow everybody down for no reason anyway.
> Signs that say 'accident slow down', and then having 40mph limits for miles and miles either side of the accident. It's on the hard shoulder of course, and there's no reason for it to interfere with traffic, but better slow everybody down miles before they get to it, and then keep them like that even when they're miles past where the accident was.
> Closing a lane because there's a vehicle broken down on the hard shoulder. Or, an accident that's been moved to the hard shoulder, but they close the lane as well. Why? Surely the whole point of the hard shoulder is to get vehicles that are in trouble off the road and keep things moving, as well as the vehicle being in a safer place. It's like the police or traffic officers are actively looking for ways to cause delays.
> Smart motorways that have no hard shoulder. They recently widened the M3, and in doing so, got rid of the hard shoulder. Yes, that will have no impact will it. So now of course any breakdown results in the whole lane being closed and massive delays. Or if there's an accident then emergency vehicles have to squeeze between traffic which takes an age and causes more problems.
> People who drive painfully slowly for no reason. Please tell me why you're doing 40mph on the motorway when traffic is flowing freely.
> People who slow down to look at an accident on the other side of the motorway. Massive delays on that side? Better slow down to a crawl and cause massive delays on this side as well for no good reason. Thanks.

I can explain variable speed limit. This is an automatic process that is designed to stop traffic build up ahead. The speed changes based on what is happening ahead so if it asks you to slow down it is because it is trying to prevent you racing into traffic, giving time for it to clear. When it says you can speed up, it means it is easing so less danger of a jam. Unfortunately a lot of people seem to ignore this and just carry on at 70+ which is a shame as it would probably work if people did only what it said.

It's actually a really effective traffic management system - it's trying to limit the flow and build up of traffic (and jams) in various areas.

It keeps things moving (even if slower max speeds) than causing more congestion and blockages (even if some bits are are top speed)

Don't think you can legally do 40 - but for instance if one a quick replacement tire due to a puncture, they might be limited.

I had to go on the motorway at 50mph once to get home on a spare.

I get the idea behind it, but surely for it to have any impact it has to be for a prolonged period of time. What's the point in making me slow down to 40 for a few hundred yards, and then letting me just go on again at 70 a minute later? I'll catch up to any traffic in no time. May as well have just let me carry on at 70 in the first place. Or, keep it at 40/50 for a decent amount of time. But yes, a lot of people ignore it all anyway, so they may as well just forget it.

It's as described above, supposed to slow the traffic in waves to give any slowing traffic more of a gap. So if everyone races to standing traffic at 70 then you have miles and miles of backing up happen. This is why when you're stuck for ages and eventually get moving you usually find nothing there to be causing it. Now if everyone did the speed it said to do (and if it's a solid circle aroind the speed then its the legal llimit and you must obey it no matter how slow it seems), then there would still be stopped traffic but not nearly as much would catch up to the back of it.

Yep. Also, banana splits who take their trollies right to the very exit of the shop car parks so that the wheels lock just so they can have 30 seconds of not carrying their shopping. Lazy, selfish, disgusting banana splits.

I've seen some people just take the trolleys all the way home.

I don’t blame them, they only cost £1 and are useful if you are walking home.

It's about preventing stops. If you slow over a long time those at the front slow to 40 a mile back they are at 39 and so in. You do it for a bit and you regulate flow.

It is creating consistent flow not just high speed flow in some sections
