The Guardian website (and tabloid, lol they bought their own Berliner printers a while ago) rebrand.

Money draining in all directions, but I bet they've paid an obscene sum to some "expert" for this.

Who the hell picked ANGRY RED!!!!!! as the main colour

I'd definitely say that's a refresh rather than a rebrand.

I was there in December a few years back and was also surprised it was quite so strawberry floating freezing. My clothing simply wasn't cut out for it.

We have got a LOT to thank the Gulf Stream for. New York is pretty much level with Spain, latitude-wise. The UK would be a frozen wasteland like the worst bits of Canada without it :dread:

I’ve moaned about this woman before, but it really annoys me when people don’t listen to what you say but constantly ask you your opinion. My conversation just went like this.

“This isn’t working, my system is crashing!”
“No, it’s just the Access database you are trying to get into, email Richard and he’ll sort it out”
“I’m shutting down my system”
“You don’t need to close the whole system, it’s just that database that isn’t working, everything else is fine”

**closes her system**

“Oh my god, it’s still not working”
“That’s because it is an Access database that has an error not your entire system”
“I am going to email Richard!”
“Yeah you do that…..”

:x

Maybe Richard should sort his gooseberry fool out instead of causing problems.

We always complain, but London/the South of England really has some of the most nondescript weather in the world. It's just...grey far too often, which is probably why people the world over have this perception that it rains all the time.

Milk seals that don't pull off properly, so you have foil left on the rim. Bring back the plastic ring pulls!

Also when stuff goes wrong at least once per day, instead of giving you useful diagnostic information whereby you might actually learn something it will just crash to homescreen repeatedly or die completely. Eat that "computer".

Apple's entirely marketing strategy seems to orbit around not calling it what it is: a strawberry floating PC/computer.

Errkal wrote:The days of kids generally being "good at computers" is over, I can see there ebig a decline in skills going into the it world as tech has gone very consumer, kids can install an app and stuff but not actually fix a thing.

I think this whole "learn code" thing is good but too late, we have vast numbers of consumers that neither understand or care how anything works.

It's potentially good for this with actual ability as salaries may go up as the market is less flossed by thousands of people that think they can do IT but in reality are strawberry floating idiots.

http://www.coding2learn.org/blog/2013/0 ... computers/

I read this article several years ago when working as an IT tech in a school and I think it's spot on. Kids are insulated from general purpose computers, stuck with computers that have walled garden eco systems where you don't need to know anything to use them. Simply turn on and consume media.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Yeah I would imagine most offices dont have a canteen in them, other than the hospital I worked at which I dont think counts as it isn't strictly there for the office the place I started at yesterday is the first place to have an in house canteen thing.

We have a kitchen area that has a microwave, toaster, kettle, a fridge and a snack machine. The electrics in there are awful though, putting the microwave on at the same time as the kettle and/or toaster results in the fuses blowing.

There's a large kitchen here with 4 microwaves, 2 toasters and a couple of panini press things in. Of course the microwaves are always in use.

Speaking of microwaves, *observational comedy mode* have you ever noticed, if you see a microwave in any American t.v. show, it's ALWAYS mounted above head height and above the cooker where an extraction hood should be. How the hell are you supposed to safely reheat anything remotely liquid like when you've got to take it out over your head? Mind you being American they probably use it wrong anyway and make toast in it or something.

Everywhere I've ever worked has never allowed toasters because "They're a fire hazard" or because they'll set the smoke alarms off.

Last place I worked had one, the number of times people shoved cutlery in there to get something out was incredible. I still dont know how noone electrocuted themselves there.
