Yes.

Jobbers aren't allowed to dump waste at domestic sites which is probably why they did it instead of paying for a skip.

The council has made it such a pain in the arse to use the dumps around here that I understand why people just dump their stuff. I don’t agree with it, but I understand it.

strawberry floating lorry drivers man. Driving home after a night shift is difficult at the best of times but when lorry drivers decide to be so utterly reckless I honestly wonder how I've driven on this road for so long without an accident. Having to slam your brakes on the slip road because some idiot is trying to slip stream other lorrys and won't give enough space for anyone to merge is a nice early morning wake up. I don't understand the mentality, at what point does your brain just think "strawberry float it, I'm pulling out and everyone in the outside lane can stand on their brakes". Some poor strawberry floater a few cars in front of me must have litterally gooseberry fool themselves as a lorry must have had centimetres to spare as they pulled out in front. To add anothet wild card into the mix the most brain dead of all, strawberry floating farmers driving tractors, think that it's acceptable to drive on a motorway at rush hour.

All joking aside this stuff really shakes me up and I wish the police would do more to stop this kind of behaviour from lorry drivers.

I think it's so ingrained in certain people that you could make it free to drop stuff off at a dump and they'd still chuck it on the side of the road.

If it's commercial waste you have to pay.

You have to register for our local tip and they also don't allow anything bigger than a car, transits are effectively banned which is why you get people fly tipping.

To stop people from other areas using their dump, Bristol council brought in some restrictions. You must show proof of address to show you are living in the council boundaries. If you want to use a van then you can only use the dump on certain days and you have to get a special permit in advance – which is impossible if you hire a van.

So you either get turned away if you are in a car but have no ID with your address on you, or if you want to dump a large item then you have to somehow hire a van while knowing the number plate of the hire van in advance while also making sure you book the van for the correct day of the week that you are allowed to take the van into the dump.

I don’t use the dump very often, but I always drive to South Gloucestershire to use theirs. I have an old driving licence (paper!) with a S Glos address so I can always “prove” I am from there. ;)

I don’t agree with fly tipping, but I can see why people in Bristol just dump beds/sofas/etc in alleyways rather than try and work around the council restrictions.

We took the van last time and got grilled by every employee at every stage. Obviously they're trying to stop commercial people coming in, but ours is so clearly a small campervan with a strawberry floating kitchen in it, and we'rejust taking a big wedge of cardboard and a few metal light fittings in.

Even in S Glos it can be a pain in the arse. I helped my uncle move house a few years and he had a small van that we were loading up with junk. It was obviously household stuff, an old lawnmower, old mattress that sort of thing. We arrived at the dump and got turned away as “we checked your numberplate and you have already been in here this month!”. Well yeah, people moving house might use the dump more than once in a 4 or 5 week period.

We drove to the next closest dump and were turned away from there as we were in a van “and you might be commercial!”. Yeah a small van with no company names on and a lawnmower and a mattress is obviously a sign of a nefarious business trying to use a council tip….

We went to yet another dump and were only allowed in after arguing for a good 15 minutes that the stuff was obviously personal and not commercial.

I totally understand why people just dump stuff in country lanes.
